Yellowjackets Thoughts and Theories for Season 4

Thoughts on Characters

My opinions on characters have wildly changed with season 3. I found Shauna very easy to sympathize with during the first two seasons but this season she's definitely not my favorite character like I understand a crash-out but she went to far. I feel like she just abandoned all her humanity this season and unfortunately it's on brand. I can't blame her fully for it because I would probably have a crash-out as bad as her if I was out there. The only thing I do blame her fully for is Mari. I didn't like Mari but the way she treated her hunt and body was horrible I felt sick watching those scenes. The way she stopped rescue too was terrible. Taissa stopping rescue seemed out of character and I wish they maybe confirmed or gave more hints that it was actually other Tai because Tai Tai wanted to gtfo of there and if anyone brought up any weird shit she would just say she took no part in it and that's that. I don't think her wanting to take a few days out in the wilderness to sort it out is out of character but she wouldn't have let Hannah and Kodi stew for as long as they did. The adult Tai plotline needs serious work because that diner plotline was not needed and the man with no eyes thing should've been explored more. Apparently the actress was supposed to have a monologue after Van's death and they cut it and that's just heinous they should've just cut one of Melissa's scenes.

I hate Melissa. She's an asshole. I'm not going to elaborate. The faking her death thing was stupid she should've just moved to the middle of nowhere and not told anyone because all the Yellowjackets didn't care about her anyway. Can't wait to see her and Gen get close to Hannah though and I wonder what they do to her. Hannah I feel bad for but she didn't have to kill Kodi Shauna was right there she could've tried to kill her and escape. Every single time Akilah and Lottie appeared onscreen together I was screaming at Akilah to run away.

I can chalk up season 1 and season 2 Lottie to schizophrenia but it's clear this season that a part of her was manipulating them to be powerful and feed her delusions. That being said they killed her off way to early and to have her death scene be explained in a flashback/flimsy flash forward was a disservice to the character we needed more adult Lottie and Callie scenes. The way she orchestrated the hunt was just heinous especially because they could've lived off the goats. Her weird fascination with Travis just breaks my heart. I feel so bad for Travis this season but he was also getting more and more sidelined because they needed screentime for the other characters. I wish him and Nat had more interactions.

All hail Natalie, the mvp of this season. The way her character arc ended makes so much sense and it's so sad because she really was the fucking shit out there. Van was Van, I like her as an adult a lot and I'm sad she died this soon but I'm not angry at it. I said I didn't like Mari and I'll say it again but she was a very realistic teenager. I loved adult Misty, get Walter away from her, teen Misty was really sidelined this season because it's summer and there's not much to do so she's not very important besides the black box thing which I still hate her for. I do feel bad for her though and my opinion of her is much better than my opinion of her in season 2. I really felt for Coach Scott this season and I Natalie did the right thing I hope she finds Paul and tells him something about Coach Scott.

Theories

Obviously from the poster we see Tai is the final Antler Queen in the teen timeline. I don't think this'll happen until post-rescue though. I think a post-rescue hunt will happen and either Gen or Akilah will draw the queen of hearts. In the adult timeline I think Callie will be the true antler queen because daughter of the wilderness (which Shauna brought back with her) and all that. Other Tai definitely burned down the cabin, Van obviously knows that based off her visions, and that's why I think Tai Tai was so angry at Coach Scott because a part of her knew that she probably did something and needed a scapegoat. Misty is 100% final girl, she was never a yellowjacket and will never be a yellowjacket, and Shauna is dying. I think the plane of death isn't bringing them back from the wilderness but rescuing them from the wilderness as the only way they can escape is through death. The plane's interior also matches the rescue plane's interior and not the initial plane's interior. I think outside of the survivors we've seen there are no other survivors because the rest committed suicide I don't think they could handle the acts they helped commit to stay alive.

There's this one theory that says that every character who is near death and in a hallucination that eats food dies I fully believe. I haven't seen many people talk about this but there are 3 characters who use an axe in this series, Misty first to amputate Coach Scott's leg, then Taissa to kill a wolf and smash down the cabin door, then Lottie to murder the frog scientist. I think the axe was a good way to show how the wilderness ramped up in aggression. I think the axe symbolizes it's wielder's fears of losing the people they love like Misty with Coach Scott, Taissa with Van and the girls, and Lottie with the wilderness. It also marks the start of a turning point like when the madness goes up a notch. I'm excited to see who wields the axe next.
