Has anyone had this experience of being on the cusp of being an outsider while still being somewhat accepted by others?
I feel like I'm somewhat normal and sociable, at least now I am anyway. And I get into these situations where I meet someone and we talk and get to know each other and find things in common. We might hang out once or twice, but after that initial feeling of "maybe we can actually be friends", they just fall off the face of the earth? Either they stop texting, or wanting to hang out, or they just forget about you completely even if you're in the same circle. I've noticed that when this happens, there's usually someone that's became more important in their life. A family member, a lover, a better friend. But, why does this happen so consistently? It makes me feel very easily replaceable. I don't know if I'm projecting this feeling of being desperately lonely, and maybe people are picking up on that? But I don't like, see anything initially that points to them feeling like I'm overbearing them. But what's weird is that every time it seems to not be going well with the new person, they come back? Am I attracting this kind of person, or is my behavior creating it?
I can usually tell if we don't resonate early on, so we don't even get to the point where we talk and hang out. But now it feels like I can do so much as to be almost be friends with someone, but I'm always shy of that last step to actually doing it. I really can't tell if this is a coincidental thing but it's happened with at least the last 5 people I considered to be my friend. I haven't had a real friend... like ever... so I mean getting this close is an improvement in a way, which is depressing to say, but I'm concerned that it's still not enough to actually make it happen.
