any tongue that rises against korra shall fall (tlok)

Hiii so I felt like debunking the most common excuses Korra's haters have because istg I'm losing braincells every day bc of you guys. This is long asf but I'm actually not sorry bc it needed to be.

  1. Korra lost the connection to her past lives

This is the most common larp hater excuse and it’s also the one that pisses me off the most. Anyone who actually watched the show knows that she got her past lives violently taken from her, it’s not like she made a mistake or gave them up so it’s just dumb to frame it as her losing them. She’s not dumb for ending up in that position either, it’s very logical for her to have trusted Unalaq when NO ONE warned her about him and she’d just discovered that the two most trusted adults in her life (Tenzin and her dad) had been lying to her and couldn’t help her with her spiritual journey, whereas Unalaq could and did (I hate him too but that’s not the point).

It’s not her fault for losing the fight against him in that moment either, if anything it’s because Mako and Bolin are useless and couldn’t do their one job defending the spirit portals. Plus she was 2v1-ing an extremely powerful bender and the actual force of evil and darkness. Do you think 17 year old Aang could’ve handled that ? Hell, not even Kyoshi herself would’ve been able to do anything if she was pinned down and had the avatar spirit sucked out of her. Like genuinely what else could’ve Korra done ?

  1. Korra is a Mary Sue/has no struggles

First of all, no one who’s calling her that knows what Mary Sue even means. According to wikipedia, a Mary Sue is a fictional character—usually female—who is portrayed as unrealistically perfect, overly competent, and lacking meaningful flaws or weaknesses. While Korra is in fact female (and that’s why most of you hate her even if you’re scared to say it), she’s FAR from perfect. She’s very powerful, confident and was a master of ¾ elements before the series even began but that’s pretty much it. Her confidence often leads to a lack of foresight and extreme frustration/a loss of her sense of self when her role as the avatar is challenged. She struggles a LOT with airbending and spirituality in general. She also struggles with de-escalating and handling situations the way the world expects of an avatar and has to learn that her powers can’t be her only tools. What aspect of that matches the definition above ?

Besides the other struggles I mentioned, she grew up isolated and ignorant about how the world works, was completely unaware of the spiritual side of bending for most of her life because of the white lotus, dealt with backlash from the president and citizens of republic city constantly, lost her bending, lost the wisdom and guidance of her past lives, got poisoned with intent for it to kill her, survived like a billion assasination and kidnapping attempts, lost her father, suffered from ptsd and hallucinations and dated M*ko’s bitchass. So I’d say she struggled a bit idk let me know what you guys think

  1. Korra is weak/weaker than Aang

Korra’s only losses are when she’s at an insane disadvantage (e.g. fighting against an ability she wasn’t aware of/didn’t exist till then or fighting with deadly poison inside her). She wins too often for this narrative to even be a thing. She’s the first metalbending avatar, the first to gain back her bending abilities after Amon took them and she even energybent a laser beam as powerful as a nuclear weapon. Her villains consisted of the world’s most powerful bloodbender who could take people’s bending away, the spiritual embodiment of the force of chaos and evil, a team of four of the deadliest and most powerful benders dead set on killing her and a ruthless dictator and her giant mech and spiritual laser beam AND SHE WON EVERY FINAL BATTLE.

People also love to say that the people she fights with carry her but you could say that about every avatar if you start reaching enough. Aang couldn’t have defeated Ozai if the others hadn’t taken on his army and Azula.

  1. Korra has no character development

Translation = I only watched a few episodes of the first season

Korra has one of the most beautiful and meaningful character arcs I’ve seen in fiction and I’m genuinely not glazing. She starts off as a cocky, overconfident girl who doesn’t really know how the world works and tries to solve all her problems with fighting and displays of her power. She carries the burden of being the avtar alone and believes that it defines her for better or for worse. By the end she’s still confident in her abilities but is also humble, isn’t scared to rely on others and knows shehas worth outside of being the avatar. She knows that she can’t solve everything with violence and is m ore diplomatic and patient. She completely loses her sense of self during her darkest moments but she comes out stronger with a new sense of self and purpose. She has a similar arc to Zuko and it’s also structured similarly, and while I won't go as far as to say it’s comparable in terms of quality, to me it confirms that you guys would love her if she was a man.

  1. Korra is a bop

Now this is just dumb lmao. God forbid she has two relationships in three years, wow what a whore smh. When Sokka dates two different girls in the span of months and flirts with other girls while in a relationship he’s a “backbender” (ew). When Mako dates her and Asami in the span of like…a week maybe ? And cheats on both of them with the other no one hates on him for that (except for me dw i’ll make up for lost hate). But of course Korra is a bop.

If anyone actually read the whole thing thank you SOOOO much omg <333 can't wait for avatar seven havens for everyone to be proven wrong and for Korra to be the canonical strongest avatar and goat :)))
