Who would I choose to forget? (Self reflection)

TW: Talk about violence and depression.

"If you could erase someone from your memory, who would it be?"

Personally, I think the person I would choose to erase would be my first ex boyfriend, from when I was barely 14.
He was my first ever experience  suffering violence, and I think it shaped me as a person entirely.
I don't think I would have the same interests, I don't think I would have the same brain, I don't think I would have taken the same decisions after.
He was the seed that started the forest of violence I have always lived lost in, which I never escaped and probably never will. It becomes your home, the eternal desire and search for pain that just doesn't go away, because it created you.
I don't think about him often, nor do I flinch or cry or panic when he crosses my mind. I don't remember his voice, his features in clarity, but I do know he was the key into the dark path things took since then.
If I forgot about him forever, or if he was never in my life in the first place, I do not know what I would be. I definitely wouldn't be me, that's for sure.
I don't know if it would be worse, if I would hurt more, if I would be here or not. I don't know if I would have ended up in worse hands or if I wouldn't have learned enough for life.
Maybe my future would have been better, if the action of not taking that one bad decision would have had a domino effect of positivity, and make everything different, maybe lead me into a road of happiness and bliss.
But I would still like to try. To see, if I forgot him, what would change? Who would I be?
Would I still have the same interests? Would I still be sick? Would I have had the same partners?
I cannot know, of course, but I do know that moments like those mold your brain for ever; in all possible ways. Not just in how you experience romance or in the people you choose, but in absolutely everything about you, every little speck of your soul.
It would indeed be an interesting experiment to see which person I would have become.
