Black tea ep.4: The best cover arts “in metal” that I’ve ever seen

welcome to the fourth ep of "black tea". a series of reviewing songs or artists that i think need to be heard or seen. so grab your black tea and listen to good songs while reading this ;)

Today, we’re not gonna review songs. We’re going to see some cover arts that I personally think are the best covers I’ve ever seen.

“Warning: this list is my personal opinion and is not according to any specific research.”

1.deathspell omega- Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice

Yes. I would definitely put deathspell omega first. Cause the meaning behind them, the colors, the patterns, the stories, the way the cover is explaining the songs and help you to imagine them in the best way possible, all of them makes me say that deathspell omega really care about what they show and say. And not only that one, but all of them (mostly their three gems) are the goldfish of the metal sea.

2.burzum-Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

Something important is that no matter how many people know burzum, they’ll never get silly mainstream. They’re one of firsts of all and it’s necessary to show the atmosphere not only with music but also with image. I personally like that one a lot more. I (cause of a project in school)

3.psychonout4-Dipsomania

One of the best albums that I’ve ever heard. Something else that’s really important about that album cover is that it looks so pretty on shirts. The theme of the songs matches the vibe of the cover perfectly and the color combinations are not something that usually all metal artists would like to try. That’s mainstream, but never overrated to me. At least not the cover.

4.sorry…-Innocence.Love.Sadness

You can only see this types of covers by one band and it’s definitely sorry… . The way all of there covers and more specifically this one is showing the innocence, the guilt of happiness and purity is exactly mirroring the concept of the band. The cover makes you wanna listen to the song and more importantly, feel the songs. It’s not something usual in metal community as well.

5.amenra-Mass VI

I can’t say how much this picture speaks to me.

I don’t have anything to say but telling the story behind the album:

Amenra members before making this album, decided to talk to each member’s mother and ask them about love, life, pain and death. Unfortunately, they could only be able to talk to the drummer’s mother who died a month after her interview with the band. This album and more specifically the song “A Solitary Reign” is about the pain of losing the person you loved so much.

The cover, as we were talking about, is what exactly they wanted us to see, feel, hurt and think about.

6.the plot in your face-swan songs

I love the color combos a lot that I had to say it at first. The colors are something else from metalcore scene which makes me wanna listen to the song. Something else that I love about it is that it’s pale and not too messy. It’s neat, dim light and has a great view from the camera.

7.Opeth-Blackwater Park

It was difficult for me to choose between this album or “The Last Will And Testament” but I choose that one. Why you may ask, cause that album is popular enough. But this one needs to be seen more. The contrast, the lights, shadows, blurry in some point and most importantly, the color palettes which is actually different shades of one color. It’s showing the theme opeth always had and I like it so much.

8.Trivax-the great satan

It’s khomeini on the cover. I like seeing him rooting :))))) besides, in Persian metal you’ll see some real good covers to enjoy! And trivax do it better (cause I’m a huge fan of them)

9.Shining-V - Halmstad

If anyone ask me to “show” them what DSBM is, I’ll show them this picture. No blood, no cuts, no tears. Just a girl with gun in her mouth. The darkness, the way they took the picture and the shadows that made her face invisible is what made me put this in that list. Something that I like about that cover is that there’s no title on it. No name, no logo. Just the picture.

10.lifelover-Konkurs

The minimalism of the cover is in contradiction with the songs. The ocean and also the sound of it on the tracks are what you’ll expect to hear when you see it. It’s not his extra and not boring Is what most people can’t show or take the balance between them.
