unfettered
i didn't take the pills
for one day and
one drink didn't do me in like usual;
oh, but his eyes did---
not drunk enough to forget myself,
today not drugged enough to let myself,
i held back my teeth
and used my fists.
what peculiar things
these pills make me do:
tint the world easy for me
and trouble for you;
such delicate food
his body, my brain:
is the mind of a lover
worth living in pain?
what incredible things
i can drink with new eyes,
stars make me sober;
your lips make me cry.
