“I don’t understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate to do” Romans 7:15 (NIV)
I swear no matter how hard I try I can never break the cycles that hold me captive. It feels impossible to even think about. Every year I start it motivated thinking I’m going to stop, but year after year it never happens. The only time that I’ve felt free is when I’m locked in and close with Jesus, but recently that’s felt impossible too.

hey dude, literally what you said at the end is the answer to your problem. staying close to Jesus. if we try to flee from sin in our own strength it will never work, we need his strength. also the closer you are to Jesus the more you enjoy being in his prescence and relationship with him, and you end up not wanting to do things that you know will hinder that. keep the faith, peace.

I really felt this, especially the part about knowing what you want to do but still finding yourself doing the opposite. I think a lot of us struggle with cycles that we desperately want to break, and it can be so discouraging when it feels like you’re making progress just to end up back where you started. My advice would be to stop looking at it as something you have to completely change overnight. Sometimes breaking a cycle starts with taking it one day, or even one decision, at a time. And when you mess up, don’t let that convince you that you’ve failed completely. Give yourself grace, pray about it, and try again. I also think it’s important to remember that feeling distant from Jesus doesn’t mean He’s distant from you. You can come to Him exactly as you are, even when you feel ashamed, frustrated, or lost. You don’t have to fix yourself before turning back to Him. Sometimes we just have to take that first little step back, even when we don’t feel ready.
