My thoughts and review of: Ordinary World

So, after watching the new Green Day movie Nimrods and really liking it, I decided to watch some of the other movies that Green Day has been in. Well, from what I know, there aren't a lot. There are cameos, like in The Simpsons Movie, where they were in the movie for at least a few minutes and then died off because it's not about them. But the one movie I can find where their lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, is the star and that movie is Ordinary World, which was released back in 2016, the same year their album Revolution Radio was released.

Again, like last time, I'll try to avoid spoilers. But if you really want to see this movie, it should be available through streaming or on DVD. Though, if you really don't care about the movie, then sure, keep reading.

From what I see, this movie seems to be forgotten unless you're a hardcore Green Day fan. If you're not a fan, then most of the time, you probably didn't even know this movie existed. Though, compared to their newer movie, Nimrods, this one seems to follow a different story than Nimrods did. Which, by the way, seems to be another comedy movie, but I'm saying that very loosely.

It stars Billie Joe as Perry Miller, a 40-ish (if I can remember correctly) dad with two kids and a wife. So, Perry Miller is now celebrating his 40th birthday, and he kind of waits for his family and friends to remember, but no—life isn't fair. And Perry seems to miss the early days of his life when he was in a band. With this feeling that Perry is dealing with, it seems to be really distracting him, especially because his whole family has kind of forgotten about his birthday. That's mostly because his daughter's talent show is also on the same day as his birthday. So, before the talent show, he decides to try and throw a party at a fancy hotel with his old bandmates, and that's kind of where a lot of the shenanigans start to happen. It's a pretty simple movie, with a story that isn't all that deep. Though, I believe that's where the movie kind of has its flaws. But I want to talk about what I liked about the movie.

Well, for one, the characters. I liked Perry. I think he's trying his best as a dad and trying to be there for his family. I also liked some of the more background-ish characters, like his friend at the guitar shop and some of the other dads who try to befriend Perry. That's kind of it for the characters. There aren't really a lot of other characters that I like, though I think that's also part of the movie's flaws. I also really liked the setting of the film: a dad trying to relive his younger years with his band before finally letting go of those past years and mentally transitioning into a responsible adult mindset. It's a wholesome movie to be honest and I do believe that Joan Jett is also in the movie, but she doesn't have a big role, she's just a cameo for another character that Perry interacts with.  

Now you can probably see that this is probably my shortest movie review blog that I've written so far, well that's kinda the thing and with the flaws of the movie. The movie doesn't really give me much to work with, though with a movie that's basically unknown that's something you have to expect (which is also why I'm filling this blog up with pictures from the movie). Now what I don't really like about the movie is probably Perrys bandmates, which I can probably say their assholes.

In the movie one of the bandmates named Gary, which is believed to be Perry's best friend, actually kicks Perry out of the band, which is kinda of a dick move, I mean I would be pissed too if I was kicked out of band without telling me. Another character I didn't really like was Joan Jett's manager in the movie named Christy, she was an old girlfriend of Perry, which they both happen to be in the same hotel that Perry was throwing the party in. Purely coincidental but sure.  

And that's kinda it, there's not really a lot of other things I can talk about this movie besides the rating of this movie!

The movie itself is okay, I mean most of the problems is that the story doesn't really give me alot to work with, maybe if the movie was longer and had more scenes of discussing Perrys backstory, like on how he started his band or his wife or his history with his ex, it would of given me more to work with but what can you do?
