lesbian space princess is one of those movies where you just wish you listened to your friends and didn't watch it. despite it having an interesting premise, the content comes off in a way that sexualizes the lgbtq+ community, specifically lesbians, which has unfortunately been an issue in media for a long time, so I was extremely disappointing to see this was written and directed by members of the lgbtq+ community. the animation falls short of what I would expect even from an indie film, I found they disregarded their character's proportions frequently throughout the movie, and they even seemed very stiff in a lot of scenes (especially the crying animations). they also had a lot of scenes where it wasn't clear which character was talking, and didn't provide any visual cues. the movie also unfortunately enforced a lot of stereotypes in wlw relationships, here were some I spotted: "lesbians move to quickly" (a stereotype I see from a lot of lesbians unfortunately) "mascs are sex obsessed" (self explanatory as to why it's harmful) and finally, "femme lesbians are sensitive" (also self explanatory). I have seen a lot of people criticize the drag queen scene and to that I say: I do not believe that was the intention from the writers, I just don't think there was a lot of research of queer communities, or consideration of what the scene could also mean.
this was my first movie review on this site, so please give me some constructive criticism in the comments as to what I should change in the next review! thank you for reading, have a great day!
