Today I've spent some time thinking about how connections work between people. Yesterday, my brother called someone he knew to tell him something funny, except for the fact my brother had established he didn't like this person at all, so why bother? I'm not a social person, and my social skills are rudimentary, I'm struggling to understand this interaction.
I feel as if most of my social knowledge comes from observation of the people around me... I suppose there's nuance in friendships like that, but previously my brother has ranted about this person saying he never wanted to talk to him again and other statements of the same vein.
I may never understand why so many people spend the amount of energy they do on social connections.

i think most relationships i have observed are so funny. sometimes they seem really superficial but tge people involved hold genuine feelings that carry their bond. it's so weird
I fully agree with this. I'll see people get completely taken advantage of and never catch on no matter how much you tell them. I've also seen people try to fake friendships and think they're incredible at it but it's so... Blatantly obvious they don't like who they're talking to

yes exactly i don't understand the point in maintaining "friendships" where you definitely don't like each other. or being overtly kind to someone who constantly disrespects you just to maintain social norms
