Hi, my name is Nick, and simply put, I love hardcore. There’s one scene I hold near and dear to me, and that’s the Virginia Hardcore scene. It’s the scene I call home.
After years of throwing down, there’s one band I’ve come back to time and time again. I call them good friends. Some say they’re the worst band ever.
It’s Colo.
Colo is a three-piece hardcore band from Woodbridge, Virginia. There’s no specific date for when they first started, but their iconic Demos EP was released in 2022, and the rest is history.
The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Marco, drummer Ethan, and bassist Gavin.
Marco, Ethan, and Gavin are all very influential people in the Northern Virginia hardcore scene.
Marco also plays guitar in Crosswords and was the bassist for a short-lived project of Ethan’s called Scrotal Ablation.
Ethan is also the drummer for Crosswords and Sunshine Hysteria, as well as the frontman of Scrotal Ablation.
Gavin was also the frontman for an iconic NOVA (Northern Virginia) band called 2ML and is currently a vocalist in Buckshot.
Colo is a hard band to put into one genre. There’s a little hardcore, punk, indie, and alternative all mixed together into this mutt of a sound that is iconically Colo.
They’re heavy, they’re loud, and they’ve never really sounded like anybody else in the scene. That’s probably why, years later, I still keep coming back to Colo.
