Akari's Music Blog - Entry 1

It seems to happen every summer, but Michael Jackson has been my sole inspiration for yet another year. I don't want to be him -- that would be super overwhelming -- but his musical stylings are just. . . amazing. Human Nature is the soundtrack of my soul, and the Wembley performance during The Bad Tour? Lives rent free in my head, really.

A version of a recomposition I'd done of Human Nature managed to be stolen and released by another artist before I'd even finalized it, much less uploaded it anywhere myself. I still don't know how it happened, nor do I care. I honestly wouldn't mind people reuploading my work if they didn't pass it off as their own, y'know? Anyway, I ended up polishing it up and releasing it anyway. Fuck that. I feel into a rabbit hole from there. The inspiration for it is a recurring dream I have of goofing around with Michael in an ethereal sort of studio as a child. Not necessarily working with him, not speaking business. Just. . . being there, watching him work, and having fun along the way. I'd rather not spell out every single detail here, but the point is, I wanted to capture the feeling the only way I knew how: my DAWs.

Now, sitting on my SoundCloud page, are three versions of the same fucking song because I am always finding newer, better ways to express that dreamscape. I wish I could just upload my thoughts into my computer and the song generating there. It would certainly make editing it much easier! :b

In any case, I think it's time to move on. Bad has been on my mind, but I think I should start writing my own music again. I have a notebook 25% full of lyrics and random phrases, none of which have been perfected or even given a real life. I've also noticed my music is less music sometimes, and more just. . . an experience? A combination of an ASMR and an actual song. It's almost. . . surreal, most of what I make. I don't make them to fit a genre, or one set audience. I just spit sound out, I guess? Jeez, that doesn't sound entirely accurate. I'll figure it out! All my tracks are self-indulgent, intentionally flawed to an extent, and made mostly to chill or fall asleep to, unless I crave chaos. I just happen to post stuff.

I am currently trying to write a song that isn't sad or melancholy, but that is proving terribly difficult at the moment. I feel like this would be easier if I had friends to collaborate with, but I want to be able to stand alone, too. Maybe I'll start asking around Indy a little; there's a flourishing indie scene here, actually. . .
