I turned eighteen five months ago. About four months before my birthday, I graduated high school through an online school. I didn't go to college. I didn't get a job until midsummer. It's not even a real job, I'm an on-call waitress (the owner texts and/or calls me at any moment to come in and work whatever shift she needs me to if something happened with her actual employees AKA her daughters) at the only restaurant in my midwest town of TWO HUNDRED people. I work soley for tips and I don't make a lot of money due to my non-schedule and all these non-tippers. My town is basically a ghost town, mostly filled with old people with white short hair and sideways thinking. The high school here is about to be shut down due to the lack of teachers and students (last year's graduating class was only 8 people). I assume in a decade, this place will be an actual ghost town. What sucks the most is I'm trying to earn enough money to get a car/truck to get a better job in another town. What sucks even more is I wouldn't have this problem if I lived in a city or at least a bigger town where there's public transportation/more job opportunities. I worry I won't reach my goal until I'm nineteen. If I don't, I'm applying to college. My birthday is in seven months, wish me luck.
