The issue with ao3 (and why i think its a horrible platform)

(Once again, just like my other entry, this came from my tumblr with a bit of censoring so i don't accidentally trigger smth. feel free to debate me in the comments, idrc)

i think the excuse that "ao3 is an archive" or "just don't look!!" are really bad excuses when people speak up about feeling uncomfortable over the amount of weird and gross fics. 

actually, even hotter take, ao3 is a horrible place. 

Yes, its an archive, but you know what else is an archive? the hundreds of libraries and other internet archives, yet you choose to support and donate to the one that allows the romanticism of stuff like s*xual ass*ult and besti*lity on its platform. 

I don't care if its fiction, do you realize how many genuine ped*philes and offenders start off with the internet?

It starts with online material (ex fanfics, comics, user threads, communities), they learn there's a community for people like them, and once their brain isn't affected by that material, they move on to REAL content of REAL children and animals, and you know where they go when that stops satisfying them? they go to REAL CHILDREN AND ANIMALS 

"oh well there are tags!! there are warnings!!" i don't care..? Minors (saying this as a stupid minor who WAS exposed to this content) are f*cking idiots. They have growing minds and they do not realize what this stuff does to their brains. 

This type of content is ESPECIALLY harmful for antisocial kids, mentally ill kids, kids who have unrestricted internet access, etc. They most likely do not have anyone to tell them its not okay. They are convincing themselves "oh i know its wrong!!" 

THEY WON'T IGNORE S*XUAL CONTENT WITH TAGS 

"oh thats their fault for being stupid!" do you not have ANY empathy? do you realize how many children are mentally affected by this content and they don't have anyone to go to because its seen as wrong and harmful? you know where they head? COMMUNITIES FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE THAT CONTENT. 

"B-But what if the tags are for awareness!!!" THEN THATS GOOD. but you know what completely cancels that out? The fact that the creators of ao3 are horrible, gross human beings who don't want to moderate their site. If they wanted to they could create a moderation team that could at least help, but when we say "oh there's too much content we can't censor it allll..." WHY DON'T WE TRY? you know how plenty of other websites manage moderation? why doesn't ao3 try? oh, right, THEY DON'T GIVE A F*CK 

stop treating this as if its the fault of the people who stumble across it. stop defending p*dophiles. stop defending z**philes. you say you're anticensorship but all im seeing is that you support the romanticization of inc*st, ped*philia, be*stiality, etc. 

Stop creating groups, communties, platforms, places for PED*PHILES and GR**MERS and HORRIBLE PEOPLE to cultivate an online following or collective of impressionable people (including minors) because that is how we end up with offenders who think what they've learned is okay and *bused/gr**med kids who think its their fault. 

you wanna argue with me? fine. But know I WAS A CHILD who found content like that on ao3. i had nobody telling me it was wrong. i had nobody explaining to me that this stuff was bad for me. I found this content and you know what happened? i seeked it out. i looked for it. i found groups of people who liked it too. guess what that led to? me being gr**med and thinking "its my fault" or "oh its okay because i wanted it.." i was a CHILD and i had NO RIGHT to be on that site, but you know what else? ao3 has no right to be allowing this content to anyone and everyone. 

rant over. i could go on for hours but ill spare you from my rambling.
