I had an interview on Monday at a pizza chain place, I walk in and the manager immediately said "oh shit I forgot I had an interview today". Very good sign.
Her and another manager sit me down outside on the bench and ask for the "application" they gave me on Saturday. I say "application" because it was literally just my contact info, high school education, and the last job I had. Nothing else. So I was kinda hopeful, it didn't ask for past three employers, or collage, and I already have pizza kitchen experience so I was like "oh yeah I've got this in the bag!"
So I sit down and hand it to them along with my food handlers license, and they write down my contact info and name in a spiral. She looks at the last job I had, says "You were only there for 5 months, where did you work before that?" I told her that was my only official job and that I do house cleaning and babysitting freelance. The second manager said "... How old are you??" and when I told her I was 21 they looked at each other and said "oh."
"Well we aren't really looking for anyone in the kitchen right now, and we'd like someone with 2+ years kitchen experience."
?????????? TWO PLUS YEARS EXPERIENCE AT AN ENTRY LEVEL FAST FOOD JOB????????? WHAT HELL DIMENSION IS THIS???????
I was ready to answer questions about my last job and stuff, I wasn't ready to defend myself from some snotty remarks about being unemployed at the fast food pizza place. I froze. I should've explained that my family is poor and I literally could not drive or work until I was 20 because we only had one car, and I have a dad and a brother who both needed it. But I didn't do that and I just sat there while they made judgemental faces and passed notes to each other making me feel like a complete failure.
I was so upset I cried on the way home, and then called one of my best friends and cried some more. My heart literally sank dude. If I can't even get an entry level fast food job what the fuck am I going to do? I'm going to rot away in my family's home because I can't get a fucking job. EVEN WORSE, my older brother said he'd wait for me so we can move out together, so now I feel bad because he's stuck here too!!!

I'm so sorry you went through that! So many people in "management" are extremely unprofessional these days, and they are barely qualified for the position they hold themselves. Being unprepared when you walked in for the interview says that in itself! Keep the search up, something will come up. I spent most of my teenage years as well as early twenties working at restaraunts, turnover rates are high at many places (often due to crappy management). You'll find something and hopefully they'll appreciate your dedication and work ethic! <3
Thank you,
A lot of the restaurant mangers I have met have been the most horrendous people. Do they make you take a "how to be a complete tool" class before promotion or what?
The search is forever on going, hopefully I won't be stuck doing part-time house cleaning for the rest of my life lol

yo, i've been thru this before (fuck taco johns lol), i have learned that sooo many hotels and rental owners etc NEED Cleaners. It might be something to officially look into, and if you have food handling experience, maybe even a breakfast attendant, preparer, or bar job could work. It's all i qualify for personally, so people like the housekeeping experience, but i'm being so deadass when I say People Are Always Looking For Cleaners
I love the Taco Johns callout lmaooo.
Cleaning/Janitorial jobs are what I started looking for!! I would much rather be mostly by myself and get work done that way, but you are not going to believe this... Everywhere I go you need at least a years prior experience and must already be trained on proper FDA cleaning procedures. WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO BE TRAINED???????
There is also a large amount of "home caretaker" jobs around here. I live close to a lake that brings in a lot of rich people. So I looked into that thinking it would be just keeping lake houses clean during the week so rich people can come down on the weekends. Tell me why when I started sniffing around the job was the most abysmal sounding bullshit I had every heard. The company I was looking into (the only official one in the area) had all kinds of extras that you had to do besides house cleaning literal mansions. Extras such as "party planner and hostess for guests", "social media representative for guests", "meal planning, grocery shopping, and meal preparation for guests", and "local guide and activity coordinator for guests". And another weird thing they mentioned was "-it's important that you are up to date on all social media trends in order to help out guests stay on top of the trend curve" ???????????? Mind you, this job is posted as a house cleaning gig, and the pay is $10 an hour. They want to pay $10 an hour for a goddamn personal assistant. And I had to dig for this info!! I feel so bad for anyone who fell for that..
Thankfully right now I'm doing some part-time house cleaning for these two old ladies who can't clean anymore. It's not a job replacement, but it at least means I can stay afloat while I keep looking.
