nintendo homebrew is so awesome nowadays

oh BOY! i can ramble about the homebrew scene on nintendo consoles! (specifically Switch, 3DS and DS)

first of all, some of it IS thanks to AI... which isn't exactly great but if i say more we'll just be complaining about that and there's better places and times to do that

anyway! here it goes...!

-- recently there have been so many ports for Switch - mainly Android stuff.

this does also include emulators - like DS (DraStic), Wii (Dolphin... twice?! its a miracle this even runs on the console somehow), PS2 (NetherSX2), and freakin' Wii U (Cemu) like how the f

there's tico! it's an emulator frontend (similar to

there's games! Ever wanted to play original Touhou on Switch? Geometry Dash? Uh... Plants VS Zombies Fusion...? you can now!

-- 3DS is also cool

i mentioned Geometry Dash earlier for Switch but there's also a 3DS port. cool isn't it? also Discord i guess

Pretendo Network (revives Nintendo Network) is also pretty cool and still going! you can send swapdoodles now (if i recall correctly)! and i mean while i can also play stuff like animal crossing new leaf and kid icarus uprising and junk online they HAVE PUYO PUYO 20TH ANNIVERSARY ONLINE BACK LETS GOOOO CANT WAIT TO BE BEATEN UP BY THE JAPANESE

a noteworthy thing to mention is that there's a new way to make music on 3DS now. NitrousTracker (music tracker for portable devices) devs are working on a 3DS port - personally i have been using that thing for ages (even if it was on and off like a lot of things) so im happy this is how far things are going! (they are planning android port as well for like dual screen devices)

-- Nintendo DS is a thing that exists

you won't believe it, but Geometry Dash is also on DS. how does it keep happening??

i mentioned NitrousTracker earlier and DS is its home. its been improving for a while doing stuff like adding instruments support (.xi files specifically), improving playback, adding effects and a bunch of other things...

a hot new thing among DS owners is DSPico. it's a cool new flashcard that:

- supports DSi mode and playing DSi games

- boots super fast! (we're talking under 1-3 seconds, especially on DS)

- can autoboot on DSi! (aka you turn it on and immediately open the flashcard, even without CFW)

- works hand in hand with a new pretty launcher and loader! (you can still use other launchers on DSPico, and use the launcher and loader on other flashcards)

- easy to update firmware of

- is open source, you can make yourself (or buy from someone or somewhere) and people are already modifying it! (usb-c port, infrared and such)

that would be all for now i think! if you wanna learn more about this stuff your best bet is gbatemp.net where nerds gather to post about this sort of stuff
