Its been a while now but my sis, the soul that has been the closest to my heart all these years, has finally gone to college. Its great to see her being able to get an education at a higher level and take on the world without our parents. Throughout the summer I see the things she's been up to and sometimes I wonder if she's the one on vacation or I am. She now also wears the clothes she wants instead of what our parents keep telling her to wear and even got her own piercings (honestly I'd do the same too). Its great to see that she finally freed her spirit and embraced has her own sovereignty far from the grasp of our parents dictative way of life that I am still imprisoned under.
A few things I want to share is that she even found her group, her community and even joined a band as a screamo vocalist. Like ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, you're the Chester Bennington of your band? Fucking insane. All that aside, if you had those bingo sheets but for college social life, my sis has filled half of it by now and is on track for the rest.
But 2 weeks ago, my sister was called back, not by teachers or staff or students but from my own parents. My parents spotted hickeys on my sister's neck when they want to visit and at that instant they forced her to go on a 2 hour travel back home to spend the weekends being "corrected" as my parents put it. She did tell me about the hickeys and how mom spotted them, but she swore it wasnt from sex and that she didnt do it but my parents being my parents, they didnt buy any of that.
I am not one to pry into my sister's life in college but my parents are. And when they do they would hunt you down to the ends of time for it. During that weekend, they would take my sister into their room, lock her from leaving and have a 'lecture' to my sister. And by lecture, they would scream till the late of night, but it's alright to my parents because theyve done that to us since were kids and because they fundamentally believe that its the right of the parents to do to their child to 'raise em right'.
That night I was so dispirited that I just stop trying to do schoolwork and coop myself in my room to listen to some The Neighbourhood on my headphones. I wish my doors had a lock but since my childhood they say that "Children shouldnt lock their rooms from their parents". Yeah, sure dad once you're done taking your rage out on my sis, you can just stop by at my room, shove open the door, just turn on the lights, walk into my bathroom, look at the cupboards and rummage through it. It was also past midnight and I was lying in bed without my pants under the covers.
But I had to take half the blame from them. They said because I was close to her and the only member of the family that she talks to, I have responsibility over her to prevent her from 'harm', 'promiscuity' and 'sin'. Gee, I wonder why she never talks to you old farts. That aside, she's at least back, but the return journey is brutal cause imagine waking at 5AM Monday to go to your college class when your parents didnt even have to bring you out there in the first place. Either way, I'm glad I heard from her that the encounter did not discourage her one bit from living that life she has. I even heard that she was able to make a bit of cash from a recent band competition and that she and her friends will be making original music.
For now, thats pretty much my life and my sis'
Almost forgot, the band's name is hologround: @hologround.band on insta. You better stay tuned on their posts.
