yesterday i posted a short novel by the title "Impossible". It was supposed to be last week's novel, but i got attached to the character and i wanted to think about it a bit more.
In this post i wanted to explain why i got so attached to it, and explain a bit about my worldview
You see, in the past i made a bunch of post on how much i like science (like this one) but really i never should have used the word "science".
No, what i truly am in love with, is magic. Seeing the impossible (wink wink) become real.
But it seems like science communicators are scared of the world magic. They'll show their audience a ball levitating in the air by itself and say "this looks like magic, but magic it is not", as if magic is a taboo argument that they are adverse to.
So when did magic disappear?
Alchemists used their brewing contraptions to create rocks that glow in the dark and transform elements into others.
Shamans used to create potions to heal the ill and raise the dead.
Oracles used to consult nature to predict the future.
So when did alchemy become chemestry, when did healing become medicine, and when did future vision become statistic.
Men do the impossible today, and refuse to see it for what it is. A magical process.
We create artificial constellation to make our artifices communicate with each other, we concentrate the power of the sun to power our machines, we can clone the soul of people and store it eternally for us to consult them.
And we refuse to see it for what it is.
I remember hearing a podcast about great scientist of the past, and nothing can match the excitment i felt every time one of them was a showman as well.
Tesla used his creations to bend lightning to his will, Galvani raised dead animals, and wow i start to notice a pattern about electricians.
It seems today the only form of magic that is socially acceptable is illusionism. Not to make the impossible, but to pretend you did.
Magic today is a low tier form of entertainment, mostly for children, based on pretending rather than do.
And i hate it.
We have the power to do the impossible, but we are contempt with pretending we can.
