Tiktok, Instagram, X, all those addictive apps suck so, so, so, so much. It makes your mental health sooooo extremely bad, and I honestly hate what it does to people. It takes away your creativity, and so many missed opportunities that could've been a fun new hobby to get into. It only makes you a zombie that just scrolls. Except, these zombies aren't looking for brains, they're just looking for a screen to stare at.
My experience with social media platforms such as TikTok absolutely sucked. I became such a sad, awful, and strange person to be around. I was constantly saying and thinking negative things, doing things I regret to myself, and it caused me to lose so many friends. It's not fun at all. But ever since my therapist told me to delete those apps, my life has been way better. I don't feel anxious to look at my phone each minute of the day, I can just enjoy reality and life.
It's been around 2 years since I've deleted my social media apps, and I've been feeling better about myself, and was able to make so many new friends :).
So, if you're reading this, please, delete those addicting social media platforms. I promise you, life will feel better and look more vibrant once you delete those apps! :D
If you have any questions or wanna share your own experience, let me know in the comments!
You're all so amazing, don't stop being yourself, and thank you so much for reading this!

honestly my own experience with that is going back and forth installing those addictive apps and then deleting them. i know they're not good in the long run and im sure whoever designed them knew they were addicting. its kinda messed up.
i dont have much time for social media due to my job but when im off i do spend a lot of time on twitter's infinite video scrolling unfortunately. to be honest its moreso just a way to cope but i wish addictive features on social media were just. gone
it got so much worse during 2020 when everyone was on tiktok and other places. i miss the old internet days.
for helpful advice i suppose i can say i tried an app called screenzen (if you're using an android/samsung) and it was pretty effective but im so addicted somehow i deleted it just so i could access whatever with no limits. i think the best advice for those who are far too deep though is to replace the really bad apps with better alternatives. like these days im mostly just on tumblr and pinterest instead of instagram and tiktok. something to scratch the itch without hurting you as much?
hope this comment makes sense im so tired lol its been a long day! but your post was thought provoking. anyways i miss how the internet was during the late 2000s and early 2010s. good times
it totally makes sense!!!! thank u sm ^_^!!!

yeah I totally understand, because I had it really similar. I uninstalled TikTok around 2 years ago, and I feel so much better now, tho I installed Instagram back just because my friends keep sending me some reels, and I rarely check it anyway, only when they are near me and they're like "check Instagram, I've send you smt very funny" and I do it reluctantly even though it is actually funny. but I never scroll there on my own.
I use YouTube the most, just when I'm really bored, for some tutorials or reviews e.t.c.

Good thing I stopped using instagram, I offloaded it cause it was taking my storage and I only use it to post pictures sometimes, but yeah both tiktok and instagram are very toxic platforms

I’ve always gone back and forth with deleting apps. I have all of them locked with an app called opal and you can unlock them for 15 mins at a time. But these apps r so addicting, I’ve been trying for years to truly get off of them. The short form infinite scrolling is so easy to get sucked into it. I wish YouTube didn’t have shorts as well, it’s hard to escape this form of social media.

TikTok was a reason as to why I got a lot of issues and why I discovered harmful things and communities. After deleting it in January of 2023 I found inner peace. But now, after being on Instagram for a little bit, I start giving up hope for humanity. People are brainwashed into those sites, they see an opinion and repeat it to oblivion. The same exact posts made, same content, same context as well. It's hopeless! I got back on Spacehey today and I feel much better being on this site, compared to being on Instagram.
YESSS!!! THATS SO AWESOME :)!!!
Spacehey, is js fun and easy to get off of imo!!! It's sort of like, u can IM ur friends for a bit, and then get off the site and enjoy reality:)!!! It's so awesome ^_^!!!

It's like a breath of fresh air. Plus there's many more things to do compared to other socials!

All modern social media are just echo chambers, especially TikTok where people share the same thoughs, this is why I leaved Instagram

it's so true, lockdown made it so worse for me. My siblings were really small at that time so my parents didn't take care of how much time i use to spend on phone, also the online classes. i use to lie and watch YouTube all day. i never used tiktok though didnt heard of it until it got banned here. i did used twitter and insta. but mostly i was addicted to youtube- i developed some sort of fomo, constantly checking my phone, and listening to music. it got little worse when some things in my personal life changed, few family problems. and using social media was my only safe space.
well, it's been 6 years to that phase. i have grown out of it, i really improved myself in 10th grade and locked in for my studies. it went well! and now too whenever i feel too stressed and lonely, i distance myself from social media instead of relying on it.
sure sometimes when its too much i talk to any of my friend about it or listen to music.
but i've developed better habits, not the best but at least my addiction is gone. most of my time spent on internet is now learning things i like, like art , coding , design. or watching any of fav shows.
but i avoid scrolling youtube shorts at all cost and teach my siblings the same (though they're stubborn now in their early teens so i can't stop the, entirely)
i only scroll insta at times when I'm free or really feel like it. but as soon as i feel like .its too much i stop and delete it.
Being on spacehey improved me a lot too because my thoughts are now more into what interesting thing i can write in a blog, or make a new layout e.t.c instead of scrolling
that's all ! :D
Thank you so so so much for sharing ur experience! And omg, that's amazing that ur teaching ur younger siblings to not be on short form content, I really appreciate it :)!!
