Hi! I'm the2000snerd, but you can also call me Penny, and welcome to another blog! I actually already made a guide like this, but this one is going to be more in-depth AND with more stimuli (Glitter Graphics). I have added a 2000s playlist as autoplay, so this is also a little radio.
Also, this is a random guide, which means that I can go off-topic at times. Sorry!
WEBSITES / EXTENSIONS
CustomTube
Aren't you just tired of a boring, minimalistic-looking YouTube? That changes now! Because with this extension, you can fully change your layout from 2008 to 2021. And you can do even more things with it, such as...
- Disabling Shorts
- Enabling the dislike button
- Choosing the size of the video player
And more!
Stylus
Dislike minimalistic, flat design designs on your favorite websites? With Stylus and some coding skills, you can transform it into an awesome-looking website!
I transformed my WhatsApp with it, for example:
Canva
I know, it's not the most 2000s website ever, BUT Canva basically opens a portal for you to make 2000s internet-esque projects. Think blinkies, stamps, your own blog website, 2000s-inspired posters, (maga)zines and more!
With Canva, I made, for instance, these two awesome 2000s-esque graphics:
DollzRevival + StyleDollz
Do you LOVE pixel dollz, but you don't know a single website where you can make them? At DollzRevival, you can! You have a diverse selection of clothing for your doll and there is a lot of customization available. There is also a lot of variety: you can choose multiple skin tones, there is a male doll maker, and they have fun extras too, such as FNAF outfits and a Juicy Couture collection.
If you want to start making graphics like I do, I would check out StyleDollz. It's an old website, but you can find tons of props there that you can put together in Canva (unfortunately, that's no longer possible on the website). Think pets, electronics, backgrounds, and even children!
ACTIVITIES
Have (more) movie nights
In the 2000s, movie nights were something to look forward to: you’d put on a film on TV or a DVD/Blu-ray and fully enjoy it without distractions. Nowadays, many people spend their evenings endlessly doomscrolling on their phones until late at night instead.
Give it a try: watch a fun film (preferably from the 2000s, of course!) on your TV, laptop, or computer. And you don’t even have to spend money on it! Just find a reliable website where you can stream films like YouTube, ok.ru, or The Internet Archive and enjoy. Don’t forget the popcorn and a drink! xx
Start a scrapbook
Scrapbooking is honestly one of the best ways to make life more fun and meaningful. Collect scraps like craft paper, newspaper clippings, receipts, stickers, DIY creations, printed photos, or anything else you like and paste them into a scrapbook, journal, or empty notebook.
Pick a blank page and decide what you want to dedicate it to. Did you have a great day at school? Did you go to the cinema or a really cool restaurant? Found your new favorite artist? Or did you finally do something that once felt really scary? Just play around with your scraps and glue them down. It’s all about the joy of creating and capturing your memories.

Have a solo date with yourself
A solo date might feel scary at first, but trust me, it’s the best thing you can do for yourself!
You don’t need friends to have fun. Grab your headphones, put on your favorite playlist, and just GO. Walk through the park like you own the place. Grab a coffee alone and people-watch. Hit the movies by yourself and enjoy the film without distractions. Or treat yourself to a nice dinner if you have enough money for that.
It might feel weird at first, but once you try it, you’ll realize how freeing it is. And who knows? You might even love it! So what are you waiting for? Buy yourself the damn flowers!
Pamper yourself
Pamper yourself once in a while, because you deserve it!
After a long day at work or school, it’s easy to feel exhausted and drained. That’s why self-care is so important. Try setting aside one evening a week as your spa night. Run a (long) shower, style your hair, apply your skincare routine, and give yourself a little massage. Do some yoga or Pilates to relax your body and mind.
If stress is weighing you down, put on some calming spa music. My go-to artists are Sade, Lauryn Hill, Esthero, Erykah Badu, and Massive Attack, as they are all perfect for unwinding.
And don’t worry, it doesn’t have to cost a thing. Use what you already have at home and make the most of it.
Watch music videos
This is SUCH a fun activity to do when you're bored. Turn on music videos of your favorite artists and watch them when bored or as background ambience when you are doing homework, for example. Music video culture doesn't have to die out!
BONUS POINTS - playback + record yourself on your laptop! A lot of 2000s teens did this as a fun thing to do when you are bored, and trust me, it's HILARIOUS seeing it back.
Play more games!
Gaming can be so fun! It doesn’t matter if you love old-school classics or the newest releases; there’s always a game that fits what you’re in the mood for.
If you want to chill and be creative, Animal Crossing or The Sims are great choices. Need a laugh with friends? Tomodachi Life or Just Dance will do the trick. And if you are looking for adventure and a little chaos, GTA and Minecraft never disappoint.
And if you want something simple and nostalgic, Neopets is still around. It's a fun website game where you collect, take care of, and battle virtual pets. If you want to friend me on Neopets, my user is @the2000snerd. Same as on here!
Design your life as you want it to be
This is very important. You may want all sorts of things in life, but if you haven’t visualized them and written them down, there’s a good chance you’ll forget about them later. Do you want to pursue a top-tier degree? Apply for a great job? Overcome your fears and traumas? Become smarter than the rest of your friends? Move abroad? Find happiness in life? Then you have to dream for it.
I know that many teens and people in their twenties are told by the world not to dream big (this has been said to me as well). And here’s my advice for you: DO NOT listen to them. Dream big. Make your dreams come true. And enjoy the journey. Write down everything you’d like to have in your life on a piece of paper. Then create a mood board on Pinterest with photos that go with those dreams. And then make a plan in small steps on how you can achieve them. Even the laziest teenager or the most unmotivated twenty-something can turn their life around this way.
And I also know that many people face obstacles. Strict parents, a meddlesome family, unkind teachers or coworkers, and more. I personally struggle with this as well. So here’s some more advice from me: don’t tell anyone about your plans. If you succeed, and I believe you will, they’ll see it for themselves. They’ll realize they shouldn’t underestimate you anymore.
