Shannie Shamrock™ circa 2008

So, as a millennial, I was a teenager during the PRIME of the scene kid and myspace days. I was a wannabe scene kid for sure! So I wanted to share some still existent photos of me from back in the day when my aim screen name was t0xicrainb0ws and I was STRIVING to be myspace famous as my self appointed name: Shannie Shamrock™...

This image? this was the one I was CONVINCED was THE photo. Like this was MY ULTIMATE scene kid picture. I still remember that digital ice cream watch. I wore it RELIGIOUSLY even though the plastic clasp broke off of it almost instantly and was being held together by tape. Not even that...but the watch stopped working so fast too! But man, I was proud of this ridiculous picture.

This was a picture from when I was a bit...better into the scene girl aesthetic? I was never the 'it girl' in the scene, especially since my looks were pretty generic and my makeup wasn't anything special, but this was yet another photo I was super proud of! And I was OBSESSED with that pink zebra hoodie and was even more excited when I found that cheesy statement necklace that matched it PERFECTLY. As you can see...I was always a Disney girl lol.

Hairclips galore!! The little bow clips were from hot topic, the hello kitty hair clip was from a Japanese mall my brother visited in New Jersey at the time, and that super tiny pink crown on the side of my head was from Claires. I remember it came in a set with a blue crown, a lighter pink crown, and a silver one-- but the silver one was pretty damn ugly so I never wore that one and put it in my American girl doll's hair, lmao. That rainbow star necklace I'm pretty positive I still have lying around somewhere! I LOVED it and wore it for years even after I passed out of the scene girl style and started transitioning into Japanese street fashion, It was such a staple for me! Same with the shirt I'm wearing here. I still have that studded choker too! I added the moon charm myself and even though it's practically falling apart, I can't bring myself to get rid of it. It was the first studded choker I EVER bought myself from Claires and I remember I was SO excited and over the moon to have it. It felt like a staple moment in my youth and I wore it RELIGIOUSLY. I should put it on again some time for fun, I'll probably never get rid of it lol.

Here's one last photo of me from the typical myspace above view! God what was with us over-exposing and over contrasting our pictures? lol...I loved that KH necklace, it took a month to arrive from china and I wore it all the time! This was when I cut my hair shorter to get a proper layer cut and I used to wear my hair in little pigtails. It felt so cute and so totally 'scene' to do lol.

Idk, with he resurgence of myspace via 'spacehey' and seeing the younger generations trying to recreate the scene kid style, it's making me crazy nostalgic for these days. They were so simple and even if my life was far from perfect, there's a lot about my teen years that I seriously, seriously took for granted and wish that I hadn't. In the blink of an eye, I went from being sweet sixteen to a few months shy of 30. I know, I know. 30 isn't old and I need to stop acting like it is because it's not healthy. But man, I'm so nostalgic. I miss being carefree and enjoying crazy outfits without fear of judgement.

Don't get me wrong, I STILL wear crazy outfits, but I miss the 2008 scene queen looks. So much so, that in a few weeks...I'm actually getting a haircut, and I'm gonna ask my stylist to let me recapture my youth for a hot second and give me a choppy layer scene kid cut. I'm even debating potentially letting him give me a SIDE BANG again. I'm not sure if I'll go THAT far, but we'll see in a few weeks! Either way, I'm up late feeling nostalgic as hell and so I wanted to revisit my youth and share some fun photos of my time back then. I have lots more photos from that time, along with some that feature some of my friends at the time. So, if anyone is interested in seeing more, I'd be happy to share and do another blog entry similar to this one. Just let me know!

Were you a teenager during the peak years of the scene / emo craze? If so, I wanna know about it! Share some stories and tell me about it, I'd love to bond over this! And hey...if you've made it this far, thanks for reading. It means a lot!

This is giving me so much nostalgia. I was a teen during this time, but I was the metal head. I had the long long hair and band tees and Tripp pants. Chains and all. Scene was always a superior aesthetic lmao

oh my god I LOVE THAT. even as a scene kid I occasionally wore tripp pants! My favorite pair was the black ones with the royal purple stitching and detailing since purple was my favorite color. In middle school I went through a major 'goth phase' so it was all tattered clothing and tripp pants when I wasn't in skirts and dresses lmao. I bet we would've been friends even when I went from dark to colorful and we had 'opposing aesthetics'!
