I have a dog. His name is Mint. I don't remember how long have I had him, but I do remember it being a very long time ever since I bought him home. He was free too, since he was from my aunt's dog.
Mint was the first of his siblings, so my aunt said that he would be pretty smart.
I don't doubt her for that, of course. He knows how to unlock his own cage and even his own leash—how did he even manage to do that is still a mystery, don't even ask me. I know he's smart, and I think he understand what I say too. If my family tells him something, he'll listen, at least. But that what makes him so annoying most of the time too, and I mean it in the most loving way possible.
He knows human language, but he chooses whether or not to actually follow it or not. My dad can try to call him over and he'd gladly waddle to her. And then my dad will try to call him and also say something along the line of "bathing", then he immediately acts like he's deaf or something. That's how I find out Mint absolutely hates bath time. I don't even know why, but the sheer sound of that made him glare at everyone, then proceed to sneak out so no one can drag him to the bathroom. It's really funny because one moment he'd be all playful but whenever someone utter the word "bath"—even though it's not at him—he'd get all wary and attempt to run away. And funny enough, he will only let me pick him up to take him to the bathroom. Others? He'll bite. Specifically my brother. Mint hates him for some reason even though he doesn't do anything to wrong him yet.
Speaking of running away, since leash barely works on him, we often let him roam around. I know a lot of people will be concerned. "But what if he gets taken? Or even get into an accident?" That is something I was worried too. But turns out Mint has memorized the entire neighborhood. He even knows who is the security and who is strangers, who can he mess with and who should he not. He doesn't allow strangers to go near him at all, and will steer away if someone is doing so. He also knows when to cross the street as well, so I don't have to worry much about him. . .at least for now.
Mint also reacts to anything related to "food" too. Anything would do, he isn't a picky eater at all. And he'll try his best to steal my food as well no matter what is it. Sometimes he'll just sniff it then walk away, even though earlier he's begging for it.
He knows who will spoil him and who will not. He knows based off vibe or something I guess. That's why he knows he can just bark and scratch my bedroom's door since he knows I'll open the door to let him in nonetheless. Mint often comes up to me and my father, since we will both do his whims almost automatically to the point of spoiling him. My mother and my brother? Not so much. They still love him of course, but he'd ignore them most of the time.
Mint has been a family member for as long as I can remember. He's healthy as well, which is a good thing. Though his face looks like his mind hasn't caught up to his actions yet, which is silly, but also cute.
I won't trade him for anything else.
