HIIIII, welcome to another blog post!!! I've been back from my trip for a while now but I've had nooooo ideas on what to write about, so I haven't posted a blog in a while ;) But I've finally come up with something, so here we go!!
Doomscrolling will eventually fry your brain. It's something we're all aware of and for some reason also seem to accept. The majority is addicted to their phones (myself included), and it's doing way more damage than good. So I'm gonna tell you guys what I do to try and quit doomscrolling, and maybe someone else will also feel like trying it out!
1. Reading
Now I know what some of you are thinking: "Oh but- but- but- I hate reading!! It's boring!!!" And all I have to say to that is, get a grip. Find a book with a plot you actually think you'll like, don't just buy some random book you saw was popular on tiktok. If your favorite movie's based on a book, buy that book and read it! And take your time reading too. Don't feel the need to speedrun through a book just because someone else finished it quickly. If you don't read at your own pace, you're bound to get burnt out and bored, which is not what we're aiming for. So basically, find a book with a good plot and take your time reading it.
2. Movies
Watching movies is actually a great way to improve your attention span, which is why I'm putting it on this list. A lot of people can't pay attention for too long and therefore end up scrolling on their phones for quick dopamine. So the point of watching a movie instead of a 15-second clip is to learn to enjoy something longer. There are so many good movies out there, and I'm willing to bet that you have at least one person, wether that is a friend or a family member, that'll watch a movie with you. Some of my favorite movies are Twilight: New Moon, The Batman from 2022, and The Hunger Games movies, in case anyone wants to give them a try. Shows are also a better thing to binge than tiktok videos.
3. Chores
I know, chores suck. At least when someone forces you to do them. But they are a way to pass time. And you can always make it fun, so here are my tips for that. If you need to clean your room, put on your favorite CD and then you'll have music playing while you're folding clothes or vacuuming floors. If you need to do your laundry but don't feel like it, remember all the cute outfits you'll be able to wear once your clothes aren't dirty anymore. Dishes? Again, put on some music, and pretend you're in a 2000s show/movie to maybe be able to romanticize it at least a little.
4. Socialize
This is may be the most important one of all my tips. Hang out with your friends or family more often instead of just rotting in your room! And while you're hanging out, don't just sit in each other's presence and doomscroll. Watch a movie or tv show, play cards, go for a walk, bake something, read books together, or just sit and talk for a while. Humans are social creatures, and even if it's just once a week, socializing and hanging out with people is really good for our mental health.
That's all! If you can manage to do at least some of this and cut down on your screen time just a little, that's a great start. And remember that some days when your energy is COMPLETELY drained, it's alright to just lay in bed and scroll on your phone for a while. But don't make it a habit, 'cause it's not good for you.

These are excellent tips for the current generation! And I can vouch for them; as someone from the 90s who grew up without widespread internet or cell phones, many of the things you mention were and still are part of my life. I would also add the ability to go for walks or bike rides, stroll through beautiful parts of the city, and enjoy the silence. Sometimes, simply contemplating nature alone also helps a lot to disconnect ✌️
ty!!!!! i should've added the things you mentioned as well bc of course they're very good for both body and brain :)
