Bard's Adventure - A Music Review From Someone With Little Context

Incredible! Despite the switch from what I believe is harp to the very unexpected sound of electric guitar and bass, the theme is consistent. The track mostly consists of string instruments, with a few additions from other categories. This fits the character well and makes it so the track gives you the impression of a bard even without the context of Venti.

Absolutely! Venti's personal riffs are a little generic to Mondstadt, but that's to be expected when he's the protector god of the region. Overall, there's not much chaos that's unintended. The changes in mood have good transitions between them and the sound remains consistent with a clear climax.

I have a bit of a personal bias. I'm not Venti's biggest fan, so my enjoyment of this track is slightly tainted by that. Good thing this is my review and doesn't attempt to be an objective review!

I'm being a little generous with the ratings today it seems. That being said, I don't think I'm wrong. Bard's Adventure has a lot of symbolism throughout it aside from the concept with the string instruments. The beginning starts off with the classic "Genshin motif", recognizable from the game's title screen. Not only does it establish Venti (a character who at the time of release was shrouded in a lot of mystery) as an extremely important character to the Mondstadt arc, but also to the entire game as a whole. It begs the questions "How does this seemingly inconspicuous bard tie into the greater story of Teyvat? What about him is so great that the game's greater theme-song is present in his own?"
Obviously, we are very aware of his ties to other factions and beings in 2036, but within the context of the song's release in 2021, the symbolism is fantastic. Subtle foreshadowing, as they say! 

Similarly, the vague Fatui motifs near the middle do a wonderful job of foreshadowing their role in the story. Yes, the Fatui are antagonists, but what does this frankly random bard have to do with it? I think the placement there is quite genius despite how obvious it is in hindsight.

Look, I won't look you in the eye and tell you that Venti's theme is generic. However, a lot of the instruments for a substantial chunk of the song are generic. Is it enough to knock two whole points off? Probably not, but I feel this is a fair rating. That being said, I really like the concept of using electric guitar and bass in order to introduce a bard. I did not expect that and didn't expect it to work so well either. The instruments are used rather modestly and blend well with the violin leading the melody. As usual, HOYO-MiX never disappoints!

Why such a low score?
I don't like this title at all. The song is so full of symbolism and wonderful references, but this title is incredibly generic. I realize part of that might be to further mask the secrets of Venti's character, but it doesn't even match the demo's title. I feel like it's just a lazy title.

Like we usually do for tracks with no lyrics, we will give the song a nice +25. This brings Bard's Adventure to a nice 78 and a grade of S! Thank you, everyone, for reading today's review!
