Kirby Anime Sub and Dub comparison episode 8.

This episode asks the important but never expanded upon the question: Why or how is Dedede the King of Pupupuland (Dreamland)? Cause none of the Cappies care about him. When Dedede decided to celebrate his 300th year enthronement, nobody showed up. This pisses him off of course.

Meanwhile, Fumu (Tiff) and Curio are doing their own archeological dig on ancient Cappy civilization. Kirby and Bun (Tuff) are goofing around digging traps for Fumu to fall into when they suddenly discover something. Fumu fell on top of an ancient casket believed to be the tomb of an ancient Cappy king. Proof that it was the Cappies that founded Pupupuland.

The rest of the episode plays out like this. The casket attracts a lot of attention in town, including that of Dedede. Fumu believes the casket is proof of an ancient Cappy king that founded Pupupuland, while Dedede believes it's from his ancestors. The casket is opened, only to prove that Dedede's family did in fact founded Pupupuland. But of course, we later find out that this stuff is all fake. Dedede bribed Curio into burying fake artifacts trying to prove that he was the rightful king. In the end, Curio couldn't bear the thought of being a fraud and confesses in front of the town that the artifacts were fake. His business was failing, and Dedede offered him money to create the fakes.

The episode ends with the newest artifact turning into a stone monster and Kirby stops it with the help of Curio.

This is the first episode to focus on some of the townsfolk instead of just being about Kirby, Fumu, and Dedede. There are more episodes going into the individual lives of the Cappies later. It really adds a lot to the show and the world they live in. This is Curio's episode, and it was pretty nice to see.

We also see that Meta Knight openly defies Dedede even though he serves him. Like when Dedede captures Fumu and Kirby to prevent them from unraveling the truth, but Meta Knight frees them. He also protects the other by stopping the monster from stepping onto people. Dedede just gets pissed.

The thing is, I thought this episode's idea is interesting. We really don't know how or why Dedede is the king. Nobody in town gives a crap about him. They just drop it after this episode.

There weren't any cuts, but it is interesting to note that in the original, it says it was Dedede's 300th anniversary as king. I wonder if that's accurate? It could be that it's accurate, but Dedede and Escargoon are exaggerating how long he's been king. It could be the 300th anniversary of the Dedede family rule as well. Oh yeah, Kirby also says Stone Kirby when he uses his stone power in the Japanese version. It's so strange to see it especially when the Japanese version worked closely with Sakurai.
