The Backrooms movie

i finally watched it today and holy fuck i loved it. i will say though i feel like the tense moments were so long it had me STRESSED over every character going in like PLEASE! TURN AROUND GO THE OTHER WAY!!!!!!!!!!

i loved clark and mary's backstories and i feel like it tied the decay and malformations of the backrooms really well with how human memories work and how with time all the habits we form can make us like an iteration, almost twisted copy, of our previous ourselves

i like to see the backrooms as a warning to *not* stay where you are comfortable, from the fact that most people (both in the movie, kane's youtube short films, and even other creators) survive when they KEEP MOVING no matter what, most die when they reach a dead end and stay where they are. i like to see it as a parallel to not get stuck in our almost auto-pilot responses, to try and break the loops we are all inevitably stuck in one way or another. as well as to not fall in the trap of nostalgia, we can never remember the past just as it was, as each time we play the memories, they warp and we shouldn't romanticise and even less live in the past

on the otherrrr handddd i cannot help but chuckle at clark cursing out the chair that breaks because it's made of particle board (i rant at least once a week over the decrease in quality in ALL products and especially furniture). aaaaaaaaand i also can't help but notice how mary's childhood home is demolished fully in order to build a massive fucking condo building that only rich people will be able to afford, or in many cases it will be built and never used. 

it's a shit situation and i feel like in a way we are experiencing this dichotomy between the fact that a lot of things were better in the past, but there is too an air of toxic nostalgia that the entire world seems to be marinating in. and it's culminating in mass produced fast-fashion poorly regurgitating old fashion trends that will end up in a landfill in 1-2 months time [see again rot, decay and poor replication] 

everybody say thank you kane pixels for saving cinema /j. but on a serious note, i loved this movie and i could probably talk about it for hours. and i will probably rewatch it some time soon for any details i may have missed.
