The Problem with the Supergirl Movie

*MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE* *TW Human Trafficking*

To many toilet jokes. Like seriously I got it the first time I got bored by the millionth.

Rutheye's story had absolutely no connection to Kara's, like there wasn't a singular similar plot beat besides both of them having good families that died and even then they were very different deaths. If they just tweaked Kara's characterization or maybe added more backstory to her character it would make sense. Kara flying into space and yelling just made no sense. We see her be very apathetic then she's suddenly just angry. I think if we saw her be angrier, like jumping into chaos even if there's a good reason for it without trying to deescalate the situation it would have better payoff and tie into Rutheye's story better. The space pirate scene was the perfect scene to show that as instead of playing apathetic and non-chalant she could've been angrier, more twitchy, eager to fight.

Krypto should've been fine because krypto has all the kryptonion powers too. I think her going after krem because she's angry that her ship was stolen and that she and her dog had been poisoned would've shown a similarity in anger between Rutheye and Kara and help the narrative flow better. This is part of the reason I was so shocked she killed Krem because she was so nice and very Clark Kent when it came to morality. The thing about a good plot twist is that it's supposed to shock you in the moment but make sense in the long run and this just doesn't make sense because we see her live up to her mother's parting words of being good the whole movie just for her to spout some bullshit about her saving Rutheye the pain and how she's different. I'm usually kill the villain but you can't try to convince the audience that Kara is idealistic and still a good person and pull this shit. Should've had Lobo do it.

Lobo was so useless in this movie and he wasn't funny or chaotic. There was a way they could've incorporated Lobo to the plot that wasn't just convenient backup occasionally. He could've been after Krem too and teamed up with Rutheye and Kara to get to him. I feel like Lobo and Kara banter was needed in this movie because it would've made this movie 10x better.

We should've seen Rutheye's shell crack sometimes. This is a minor complaint but as she was warming up to Kara we should've seen her act more and more relaxed instead of uptight and revenge-focused.

I don't like the whole girl trafficking plotline. Especially with killing off the whole family, it just felt icky. It was in character for Krem but they should've made it clear that they were never getting their daughter back. They should've shown the parents acting more restless especially when they spotted the daughter and were hauled back. Good parents would've at least try to hit the brigands and if they were really that thoughtful they wouldn't have rushed in no plan. Maybe one went high while the other went low, either way it just wasn't handled well. Also you're telling me Kara thought every fight through but when people on a planet known for selling woman are acting suspicious and they give her a drink while sweating through their rags that she would still drink the drink?

Also Krem would've totally kidnapped Rutheye if he was in the trafficking business there's just no chance he wouldn't if she was so "valuable" as they say in the movie. If he can walk calmly out of a burning house he can pick up the pace to kidnap a defenseless child.

In short, the main problem with this story is that the characterization was really off and they set up one thing just for the character or plot to do another thing entirely.
