black tea ep.1: rough sleepers by crippling alcololism

welcom to the first ep of "black tea". a series of reviewing songs that i think need to be heard. so grab your black tea and listen to the song while reading this ;)

today, we'll talk about the song rough sleepers by crippling alcoholism, the first song that i heard of this band and made me impressed! the song is from the album "with love from a padded room". the album that the band itself says its " about a fictional prison and each song captures a different prisoner being held in solitary confinement" good idea, right? but something importent about ideas like this is how they wanna PERFORM the idea and make us satisfied. well, crippling alcoholism did a good job with that idea.

1.intro:

somthimg that i love about the intro is that it doesn't strat with lyrics. what i mean is, the first few seconds in the song you won't hear any lyrics. and it's one of the things i love and reminds me of the song khaneye  sorkh by ali sorena, a persian hip hop song. then the intro start with a calm and  slow drums thats in company of a deep, calm, mature, reach- vocal that it takes you into trance. the keybored is one of the reasons that makes the intro lovely. the rythm is a bit stressful which i think is exactly necessary. you may ask why? and i must remind you of the meaning behind the song. it should be stressful cuz it's the time that our prisoner will get his punishment.

the meaning i get behind the intro: our prisoner (as i said) got the news of his retribution came for corruption and deviation. which is execution.

(as a persian, it's not something unexepected XD)

2.chorus:

the vocal in the chorus get a bit higher than how it was in the intro. the rythm, the lyrics, and specificly drums get into it's best self. the song gets higher and makes you get deeper into trance. guitar is now in and is making the song more rythmic like the vocal and makes the chorus to give better affection. i think that the lyrics gets to it's best part.

i think that our prisoner thinks that the reason he's in prison is god and god's unreal heaven.

*personal opinion: the band could make the chorus even more affective by adding a female kinda-opera back vocal to company the guitar*

3.verse:

its exactly the same rythm as the intro which makes the chorus more unexpectedly calm and passionate both in the same time. it's exactly what you need to feel the creep they want you to feel. i'm not sure but when i was more focus into that part, i guess i heard a female vocal in the back but im not sure about it. whatever it is, it made the verse a bit more special than the intro which that "JUST A BIT" being of it is making it enjoyable and made me obssesd.

4.bridge: what i personaly think is the maine part

you maight ask yourself "why she thinks bridge is the main part, not the chorus?" and i should say, the chorus was perfect, but the bridge is what made me wanna write this blog. the bridge is an absolute art. it's filled with lot's of emotions such as hatred, nasusea, anger, pain, torment and more than all, madness. it destroyed the trance and put you in a cage full of termitess that would destroy your armor. it's an absolute chaos, which is the main reason i call it a real art.

the meaning i got: the prisoner did the crime cuz of family issuse and the need of proofing himself to his dad but now that he's in solitary confinement, he hates them all.

*personal opinion: if the female vocal was there to company the male vocal with high screams and if the male vocal was more harsh in the end and the scream got the lead of the bridge, it would be a 100% yes song for me. i would even like a few second of silense in the end of the bridge before the outro to make you ready for the outro's calmness.*

5: outro: creepy calmness afterr the chaos

it's an unexpected calmness after the bridge which made you open your eyes and see the real chaos is in your mind, not the reality. the female vocal is lovely and the male vocal is what's making crippling alcoholism to be unparalleled. it's showing the regret that the prisoner despaite all the harsh feelings he had, in the deepest part of his heart feels. not only regret, but also sadness, self-hate, accepting of what  will come for him and after that it’s just one feeling. calmness. which is not a normal calmness. it's like losing feelings in the end and prepering himself.

i think the outro is perfect

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

in the end:

would I recommend it? definitely

if you didn't like it: try it again

song i think would give you the same feeling: khaneye sorkh by ali sorena, the whole "with love from a padded room"

the score i give it: 85/100

thanks for reading! javid nam farzandan iran!

tell me what do you think and what should i do next?
