OpenWeird v1.1.0 is live

This update introduces an entirely new part of OpenWeird: the Tribute Chamber.

It is a quiet space built around the monolith where visitors can honor and support the continued existence of OpenWeird and summon a pixel signal behind.

What is the Tribute Chamber?

The chamber is separate from the main portal and Weird Websites directory.

Instead of sending you somewhere random, it gives you a place to stop, approach, honor the monolith, and offer tribute to OpenWeird.

You can now:

• Offer a one-time tribute of any amount through Ko-fi.
• Offer a monthly tribute.
• Appear inside the chamber as an animated pixel signal.
• Honor the monolith and climb the ranks. (resets upon leaving)
• Tap or click a supporter signal to reveal its display name.

A living field of contributor signals

Contributors are represented by animated pixel signals moving around the monolith.

Some walk while others fly through it. Their movement, size, appearance, and position are assigned individually, allowing the chamber to gradually become more alive as additional contributors arrive.

The signal field was built to adapt across mobile, tablet, desktop, and wider screens.

Movement limits are also adjusted depending on the device, helping the chamber remain responsive even as the Contributor Board grows.

Built for different screens and visitors

A large amount of this update focused on making the chamber work properly across different devices.

The page now includes:

• Responsive positioning for the monolith and chamber controls.
• Mobile-friendly tribute windows and scrolling.
• Improved touch and click interactions.
• Supporter labels that remain inside the visible screen.
• Keyboard dismissal using the Escape key.
• Live reduced-motion support.
• A lightweight fallback when the main signal renderer is unavailable.

Resizing the browser or rotating a device should no longer reset active supporter interactions or send signals outside the chamber.

OpenWeird will remain free to explore.

Tributes are simply a way to help cover the costs of keeping the portal online, maintaining the collection, and continuing to build strange new things around it.

Anyone who contributes can choose the display name they want to use on the Contributor Board or remain anonymous.
