TEDRICK(MY SELFSHIP) LORE DUMP BECAUSE I WANT TO

HELLO. this is my tedrick masterpost. here you will find every detail about tedrick/teddy (my doawk sona NOT ME.!!!) u will get. lets get freaking started okay

detailed timeline:

AUGUST 2007 (diary of a wimpy kid)
teddy moves to plainview from jakarta at age 16 for his dad's work! it's a big change for him, not just moving continents, but moving from one of the biggest cities in the world to a modest town in the usa. he already struggled making friends back home, but here where he's a complete fish out of water, he struggles even more. 
people make fun of him for being asian, for being autistic, for being queer/trans (he's technically out but not openly, a sort of 'only if asked' situation) but lots of people assume hes like a lesbian or something.
he does find peace in a hallway crush he has- rodrick heffley. someone else in his grade, he knew very little about him. mostly just that he was alternative, was in a band(?) and was unbelievably cute. he built up an image in his mind of him, he knew it was unrealistic but he also never thought he'd ever speak to rodrick as they didn't have any classes together and next year was their senior year of high school, so he thought it would be harmless.
MARCH 2008
it's now teddy's second semester of grade 11 and second semester of being in crossland high. he still doesn't have any friends but the teasing/bullying has calmed down. also... his english class is transferred due to something with clashes of schedules with teachers or some bullshit, meaning he's put into rodrick's class. OOPS. (also they're both 17 now). there's a group project, teddy just kind of waits like he always does, eyeing rodrick. he fully expects somebody else to approach him to work on the project but no one did, which surprised him. Remember he has a built up image in his head of what rodrick is like, and that made up rodrick is a lot more likeable and probably more popular. but anyway teddy is like well ok well i dont have a choice anymore we're the last two people in the class not partnered up so he approaches him.
rodrick sees teddy, percieves him as a shy nerdy girl who is like quite cute, and asking to work together, so hes like ohhh ok fuck yes? 
so they work on the project together and rodrick is like flirting shamelessly. but the way he flirts with women is like. kind of a mega turn off especially when it becomes apparent he kind of only sees him as a girl and a nerd. the crush teddy has fades. teddy comes out and explains to rodrick that hes a guy and rodrick immediately shuts up and is like. What. ok. well im not gay. and they somehow immediately get along better now that rodrick wasn't treating him like a girl.

SEPTEMBER 2008 (rodrick rules)
rodrick and teddy are like, really good friends now. rodrick really likes hanging out with teddy because he's really different to his other friends and he can be a lot more open about his emotions and have 'deeper' conversations with him because he's actually☝️kind of a reflective guy even if hes not the most articulate. and uh oops as soon as they become friends and this new side of rodrick's personality that is usually hidden he starts crushing again. way harder this time tho. and it SUCKS because rodrick has made it abundantly clear that he is straight.
NOVEMBER 2008
rodrick starts practicing and hyperfixating on the winter talent show, and teddy is like woa well i want to help u with it!!! and so he meets löded diper for the first time and they are all like 'wait i thought teddy was a boy. u have a girlfriend???' and teddy is like squee hehehehe >.< Twirls his hair because theyre mistaken as a couple. but then. MIC DROP rodrick is like 'wtf guys no i told u heather hills is the one'. teddy freaks the fuck out because um WHAT they talk abuot everything all the time and rodrick has never mentioned her. he is heartbroken and jealous and embarrassed and confused. especially beacuse heather was like highkenuinely mean to him in a club they have together. Oh also rodrick turns 18 this month #Mybirthdayheadcanons
they start getting a bit more distant to each other after that, mostly because of rodrick being so hyperfocused on the talent show, but then one day he hears people in school talking about a party that happened. whatever, pretty normal right? But then he hears that it was rodrick that threw it. so now he cares big mega time. he confronts him and rodrick doesnt catch the hint that teddy is upset that he didn't invite him and is instead like OMG YEAH ABOUT MY PARTY HEATHER HILLS ACTUALLY SHOWED UP.!!!!!!! and now teddy is even MORE MEGA PISSED AND HES SO UPSET but he knows he sounds insane. so hes just like. Rodrick. Why didn't you invite me. I miss hanging out with you i thought you were busy with your band and family and thats why we can't hang out like we usually do. and rodrick is like oh :( sorry well i know that you don't really like parties and stuff so i didn't think you'd want to anyways. so teddy kind of softens a bit and is like ok i guess ur right but lets hang out more okay :(
and they do!! but its kind of more strained because of how jealous teddy is. and rodrick (i hc he has adhd) mostly rambles about whatever he's hyperfixated on and right now he's hyperfixated on the talent show (obvs) and. his crush on heather hills. so its hard on my boy. but he sticks by it because he tells himself well. there was never a chance, rodrick is straight, but i just want to keep my best friend in my life.
DECEMBER 2008
as it ramps up to the date of the winter talent show, rodrick's parents forbid him to perform. teddy is the one he calls and teddy is the one who comforts him and its a real bonding moment and its the closest teddy has felt to him for a while. he'd been trying to get over his feelings for rodrick but that kind of made him fall deeper in love #OOPS #unhealthy #because they cuddle. but uhh then he DOES end up performing and teddy is super happy for him and he goes backstage to congratulate him but his band is like Oh sorry you just missed him he went to go find heather and teddy is like dont actually fucking piss me off right now

JANUARY 2009 (the last straw)
they do hang out more but rodrick still keeps talking about heather and at one point teddy gets so pissed he even says to rodrick's face (because he's whining that heather is playing hard to get) that "Well maybe girls just don't like you and theyre not playing hard to get. try for guys instead they have much lower standards." Which is brutal ouch and teddy apologises and tries to play it off as a joke but uh that comment does kind of stick to rodrick as you  will see later. but other than that its basically more of that same dynamic up until-
APRIL 2009
heather's sweet 16. oh also teddy is now 18
but anyway heather's sweet 16 goes HORRIBLY (as is in the dog days movie) for rodrick and he gives up on heather. after it wraps up he just goes straight to teddy's house and they hang out and cuddle aw (#unhealthy) and talk about other stuff. teddy NOTES that rodrick is not talking about heather anymore and hes trying not to celebrate but he doesn't really know what happened. the next morning though he sees videos uploaded of rodrick's performance of baby and hes like Oh my darling. Poor darling. but he also does find it a bit funny but hes not going to tell that to him yet obvipusly. 
MAY 2009
They graduate high school Yayy #my yay rodrick highkey only graduated because teddy helped him with school workkkkk good job

JUNE 2009 (dog days)
they almost immediately get SUPER ULTRA CLOSE again after heather's birthday but even closer than before like its codependent. however teddy is determined not to fall in love I won't say it no no no no no way no chance too cliche
but yeah they basically. only hang out with each other over the summer especially cuz one of rodrick's bandmates was moving away for college and bill was on a family vacation(😭). also when they got sweety teddy was so excited and was basically over at the heffleys house all the time because he loves dogs he was devastated when they gave him away

SEPTEMBER 2009 (the ugly truth)
they both take gap years, teddy wants to work and rodrick um. Also wants to work. (he doesn't)
teddy works at a video rental store and gets an internship and rodrick is like hgnrgrrrr because he compares himself to teddy a lot sometimes especially cuz his parents are annoying about it #Yay #More unhealthy
oh but guess what else happens. the heffleys host like a gathering . rodrick obviously invites teddy. geuss what. theres alcohol. um guess what they drink. Guess what haha. theyre drunk and rodrick confides that ever since teddy made that comment about going for guys instead he actually had been considering it. ESPECIALLY after heather made it abundantly clear he had no chance. turns out he never even considered that he could be anything OTHER than heterosexual, even though he knew gay people existed obviously he just didn't think he could be one. but THEN hes like. I'd probably know if i could kiss a dude. and teddy stupid idiot poop teddy who is still trying to get over his crush (And honestly has for the most part? For the most part.) is like. well. you could kiss me. ive never kissed anyone i want to know if i'd even like it. and FUCK HEAD RODRICK SAYS 'oh well i was hoping youd say that actually because if i had to pick a dude it would be you. if you were a girl we'd totally be dating right now'.  ok. 
anyway so they kiss. and they both like it. Whatever though right guys

NOVEMBER 2009 (cabin fever)
rodrick's 19 now ok. anyways they don't communicate about the kiss at all afterwards. they still remain very very very close the kiss didn't change that they just don;'t talk about it. which teddy takes as ok he wasn't that into it he's not gay hes not bi hes not into dudes thats the last straw. we literally kissed and he didn't like it so thats it theres not a chance at all in heaven so he fully expels all hopes of that.
Um however rodrick has been processing for months how he feels and he's pretty sure he's bisexual. and he's pretty sure he's in love with teddy and has been since graduation. #OK

JANUARY 2010 (the third wheel)
well rodrick's all done processing he's fully accepted himself (although he's not out because his family are conservative). but however he is openly flirting with teddy. teddy is clueless as fuck though and keeps cursing rodrick being like STOP BEING CUTE IM TRYING NOT TO BE IN LOVE WITH YOU ANYMORE. STOP IVE WASTED YEARS ON YOU. but like in a cute way where he's staying up at night in bed and blushing and glaring at the ceiling and rodrick is doing the same thing but giggling and smiling because he's for sure assumed that teddy likes him back because he's gay. which like hes not wrong but hes stupid for thinking thats the reason
FEBRUARY 2010
hi ok teddy is 19 as well now. haha llalalallala guess what THEYRE DATING NOW. How may you ask? rodrick asks teddy out for valentines day very confidently because um once again he has assumed that teddy likes him back without a shadow of a doubt. teddy is like woah slow down what? What? and forces them to have a conversation about it. and it goes really well and theyre boyfriends and they love each other very much

SEPTEMBER 2010 (old school)
oh you thought they could just be happy now? well no. teddy still wants to go to college and he got accepted into one in boston. their time is limited, he leaves next month :( rodrick did finally get a job though at the olde timey ice cream parlour :3  he uses his first cheque to take teddy on a date. on their last date actually Heh
AUGUST 2010
teddy leaves and they kind of break up. its not really explicitly stated but they know they're not gonna really be able to make it work long distance

DECEMBER 2010 (the getaway)
so in their time apart, they're both just trying to get on with their lives and move on. in this book rodrick gets a girlfriend on the cruise ship but obviously that ends badly cuz she cheats on him and hes like fuckk ugh. Nobody will top teddy. teddy also goes on a few dates but they dont go anywhere and its kind of his fault because hes a hopeless romantic and he was like well basically with rodrick it was love at first sight. i either have to have the same feeling to someone else, get back with him or never be with anyone else ever again.
oh also teddy starts testosterone WUHUUUUU YEAH BABY.!!!!! And cuts his hair more masculine hes starting to actually pass good for him. oh also rodrick is 20 now. oh ALSO rodrick is joining community college

JUNE 2011 (wrecking ball)
teddy comes back to plainview to visit his parents(hes 20 now also) (he and rodrick hadn't really kept in contact) but reconnects at the löded diper bowling alley gig. they immediately pick up where they left off and are like fuck why did we think we could live without each other. boston isnt even that far. they decide they'll try and put effort into being long distance

AUGUST 2011 (the deep end)
they do have a long distance relationship!!! ik in canon its implied rodrick was texting ward in the book when he was on his phone a lot but Um to me he was talking to teddy. they text and call a lot, but they do obviously face challenges. like there was a reason they didn't try to go long distance the first time, the phone bills get quite high, they yearn a LOT to kiss and cuddle and stuff so it almost makes them just as depressed as when they were broken up, oh and... they kind of influence each other poorly (or not poorly? depends on your perspective LOL). they become a lot more against "the system" and they highkey want to drop out and live together and rodrick would do music and teddy would do illustrations.

APRIL 2012 (diper överlöde)
So they do that. yayyyyy happy ending!!!!!!! and theyre both 21 now

additional notes:
- teddy IS. a huge nerd and rodrick often makes fun of him all the time
- rodrick grows his hair out after they drop out and run away together
- in high school teddy "tutored" rodrick a lot, especially in english as thats the subject they shared and teddy loves english. 
- rodrick's parents and greg really really liked teddy and also teddy wasn't out to them so they kept teasing rodrick about teddy being his girlfriend.
- teddy was kind of insecure because rodrick had identified as straight and he was the first guy rodrick had realised he was attracted to so he was worried it was just because he looked like a girl, even though he was sure rodrick viewed him as a guy it was still. a point of contention for him. but when they got back together after teddy had been on testosterone and had shorter hair and more facial hair than rodrick he felt a lot better :)
- teddy did make other friends! Its not THAT unhealthy guys pssshhh. but yeah he made some friends, out of the canon characters probably leland and whoever leland plays magick and monsters with :3
- the star clip in teddy's hair is from his best friend back in indonesia
- teddy pierced rodrick's ears and rodrick hurt so baddddd he was cryingg even though hes the metal 'tough guy' and teddy is the soft nerd. whatever.
- teddy is autistic and his special interest is horror movies, and he always shows his favourites to rodrick. rodrick loves them, he loves horror movies, but he gets scared or put off by them easily and it makes him SO embarrassed aww aww hes so cute kissing all over his face rn btw
- teddy is actually aromantic 🤓 so yeah theyre boyfriends and stuff but its a bit queerplatonic moreso than romantic. at least on teddy's end, rodrick doesnt know about all that fancy lgbt stuff 
- they both had no prior experience with relationships
- teddy's personality summary: he has high standards for everything and tends to overreact when those standards don't get met. but he's PAINFULLY self aware, so he doesn't let it show. he's quite introspective and cares a lot about everything/everyone, sometimes to a fault.
- rodrick's personality summary: very dense, even though he is smart and has the capability for deep thought, things often don't occur to him unless they directly benefit him in the moment. unlike teddy, he is very unaware of this. he cares mostly about himself, and is unsure of how to express himself vulnerably to others, even if he wants to. that isn't to say he doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve, he does, he's just very awkward about it.
