You're sailing in the midst of the ocean and you hear an enthralling voice coming from outside of the ship. The sound is of a woman singing, and it holds you captive. You find yourself walking to the end of the ship, looking for your singing beauty. Then your eyes meet and you come to find that the voice belongs to a woman right beneath the ship. You recall what your crew talked about while drinking after a tiresome day. Ethereal beauties living under the water and preying on sailors, captivating them with their voice and luring sailors to the water, to feast on them. Or in some cases, even causing shipwrecks, if none of the sailors were cautious enough to resist. Sirens were also depicted as bird-woman hybrids by the Ancient Greeks earlier. They looked different but they served the same cause.
What differentiates sirens from mermaids is their haunting nature. Mermaids don't mean harm to the sailors, they are probably just sailors' fantasy of a possible woman presence in the middle of the ocean. They even claim that mermaids had a tendency to fall in love with those old men. But sirens are not so inniocent, their intention is to eat the sailor men.
According to the sailors who claim to have seen their crewmates falling victim to sirens, these beings are more than meets the eye. At first you hear a singing voice from a distance. Then if you're naive, you follow the voice because it lures you. Then other voices join the first one, there're more than one now. Before you know it, you are surrounded by sirens, all singing to you. Some say they're beautiful at first, just before they open their mouths and reveal their razor sharp set of teeth. But some say they only have beautiful voices, and not the looks, that they look as cursed as their intentions are. But at that point, it don't matter, cause you're already lured. As you lean closer, one grabs you by the neck and all you are now is a splash in the water.
They can lure a whole crew, some wise ones will try to warn the younger sailors but they won't listen. How can they resist such absurd attraction? Losing a few sailors ain't that bad but if the captain is lured, the whole crew's fate is the same. The captain wrecks his own ship by sailing it to the closest large rock nearby. So the whole siren pack can feast on the whole crew, while the ship is sinking.
Sailors believe that women bring bad luck to the ship. So those women who secretly enter the ship before it departs, and get found while the ship is in the middle of the ocean already; get thrown in the water, left to their own fate. And some believe this is how sirens become what they are, revengeful women turning into monsters and preying on those men who did wrong.
So turns out my knowledge about sirens isn't that great, but there ain't much to know about them anyway, this is briefly all they are. I remember really liking the "mermaids" from the movie of Pirates of the Caribbean as a kid, turns out they were sirens. But yeah, hope you liked this! Take care!

If it's true that sirens are those women who get thrown off the ships, I don't blame them for being vengeful since they got slimed for no reason by the men.

I find Sirens very fascinating, they are not only beautiful, but also has a unbelievable voice. And to be honest if they were actually the women from the boat searching for revenge, iit would be even more impresive.
right i love that take on revengeful women! thanks for reading fran :)
