Book Review - The Last Vampire - Whitley Strieber

2nd book in The Hunger series. I have read and reviewed the first book which, despite having a lot of problems i sincerely enjoyed!

This second book adds up a lot of the problems the first book had while taking out a lot of what i loved. Retconned and ruined a lot of characters and plot points purely to establish new lore; which besides purely stuff established for lore and background shit SUCKS. The book does the same thing as the first book of having a slow as fuck beginning (though where i appreciated the beginning to the first book this one i did not. just established changes) a really intriguing middle, and a DOGSHIT ending

Thee only reason why this book might be necessary is because the third book might be good and you’ll need to read the second to get there; considering the biology changes and insane changes to Miriam and Sarah especially. However, even if this book is technically necessary i recommend just learning the changes they establish in the second book so you don’t have to read it… but because this book is so obscure nobody has done that- so I will here! Miriam runs clubs and shit, she fucks a half vampire (Paul) and they have a kid, Sarah dies after having her personality destroyed, Miriam and Leonore (her new party girl lover) take the kid while Paul and Betty (the human vampire hunters) hunt them, she doesn’t act like she cares about her human lovers anymore as she leaves Sarah to die and everyone in the coffins behind, and last but not least i guess you can presume that Miriam is The Last Vampire.

read the first book, skip this one, we’ll see about the third.

also on a more personal note as the designated singular Doctor Sarah Roberts lover OH the character bastardization in this book makes me wanna throw my head through a wall. They did some UNHOLY things to my woman’s character and I hate it all. Miriam I find so interesting but Sarah is the only character i genuinely LIKE. and now that she is gone i bet this last book is going to draaaaaaggggg even more than the second one did
