overall thoughts

i don’t normally listen to olivia rodrigo on the daily, but everyone was hyping this album up, and since i do enjoy her music, i got excited too ! this album took me to places and emotions i never thought were possible, and somehow she single handedly created my favorite album of the year so far.

she has this way of singing where she can sound so gentle and broken while still having the most powerful effect on the listener. so many times, i had chills and teared up !! i think this is the closest i’ve come to finding a perfect album ngl...

absolutely ZERO skips from olivia here. the album only got better as it went on, and it started hitting my feelings a LOT more !

hands down the BEST SONG ! dare i say one of the greatest songs of the year.. this is my absolute favorite - how can you not vibe with and enjoy this song ?

it feels like gaining control back over your life and finally not worrying about a man anymore, like true happiness is coming back into your life. i know it’s above a ten, but i do not care. this song is THAT girl.

LADIES, keep your expectations high !!

#2 stupid song 10/10

this song really is a work of art. i think olivia’s voice absolutely SHINES, and the emotion she brings is incredible - it’s just so tender but powerful. i loved this song from the very first listen, and it still hasn’t gotten old or repetitive. that’s what makes me appreciate her music even more. this song alone has gone platinum in my house !

#3 u + me = <3 10/10

immediate love because of the grunge/alternative sounding guitar ! this song genuinely feels like falling in love for the first time after having such horrible experiences with relationships before.

i have big emotions, and i get the feeling that she’s like that in this song too. it genuinely sounds like the music playing in a movie when the main girl realizes she’s going to be okay and that life is great. it’s such a beautiful song, and the musicality is amazing !

#4 the cure 10/10

i didn’t think i would instantly connect with this song, but from the very beginning, i was hooked, and it only got better. it feels like reaching the point in a relationship where you finally see that the love has become "poisonous" and realize you can’t rely on it anymore.

i have no words other than this song is perfection. it’s just that good, and it now has a special place in my heart.

#6 what’s wrong with me 10/10

i fear this song is the current state of my life. unfortunately, it’s true. the way her voice captures the feeling of true depression aka feeling hopeless, exhausted, and completely drained from love - is devastating.

the newest addition to my feelings playlist. this had me crying a little TOO much, so whenever i need a good cry, i will definitely come back to it. i’ll also return to it whenever i just need some kind of comfort while i’m sad.

i couldn’t think of a better way to end this album. it feels like a bittersweet ending.. looking back on what could have been while knowing that everything happened for the best, even if part or all of you regrets it all. what a beautiful story this song tells as the ending.

holy peak, what a great way to start this album !! this song is so dreamy and almost has a nostalgic feeling to it - like the early 2010s, maybe? the bridge had me ASCENDING, and the final chorus where she starts singing in her upper register was absolutely perfect, especially with that beautiful ending sound !

something about this song feels so nostalgic, like something i heard when i was younger. this song is more about lyrical connection for me because i’ve been in this situation. it almost brought me to tears for no specific reason, it just tugged at my emotions a little.

#11 maggots for brains 8/10

i’m obsessed with the opening instrumental. it genuinely makes me feel like it’s fall in the early 2000s. the lyrics and the vivid images they create are some of the main things that drew me into this song.

this one honestly resonates with me because i used to be a high schooler who was so in love with her boyfriend that she stopped thinking straight and ruined all her best friendships for a boy who never cared. excellent outro to the song as well !

#12 honeybee 7.5/10

i adore this song, and i think it’s cute ! i really have nothing bad to say about it. my only thing is that recently it has gotten repetitive because it’s all i hear on tiktok, specifically the “baby boy, honeybee” part. it doesn’t take away from the song itself, but i don’t listen to it as much as the other tracks on the album.

#13 my way 7.5/10

it kind of gives me victorious vibes ! it sounds different from the other songs, and while the chorus isn’t as strong to me, i still enjoyed it. the bridge really pieced the song together, and leading into the final chorus, it became so much better! i’m not saying it started badly, but it felt like it was missing a few extra sounds at first.

closing thoughts

i started this album excited but with no idea what to expect. by the end of it, i felt like i had experienced an entire relationship, breakup, identity crisis, crying session, and healing journey. this is basically what i'm going through right now - crazy how music finds you when you need it most !

the album starts dreamy and nostalgic, but the further it goes, the deeper and more personal it becomes. somehow, olivia made songs that feel gentle enough to comfort you while still being powerful enough to completely ruin your night.

this is easily my favorite album of the year so far, and it is probably the closest i have ever come to finding a perfect album. <3
