I feel like special needs classes needs a reformation. ( In ireland )

I've had this opinion for awhile, but before I get into my reasonings I would like to say I am speaking for my home country only, not the entire world I don't know how special needs classes are in other parts of the world. 

The main reason I think this way is because how little we learned and did in that classroom. I was put in special needs classes for the whole time when I was in primary school because I had autism. ( 2014 - 2022. ) And honestly what we did was just play school stuff. I wish I was kidding but we spent most of our day's on ipads, walking around the school and playing with toys.

 Which I didn't have a problem at first but It kind of dawned on my around 5th class ( 2021 ) that I don't really learn anything and Since I'd be going into secondary school in 2022 ( Basically middle school and high school ) I was worried that I'd be dropped into Secondary school unprepared and that's exactly what happened.

Since we didn't learn much of anything I was dropped into a new environment extremely unprepared. Instead of my special needs classes that had a total of 6 people into a classroom with 25 people. Academically I did not do well to say the least and I academically struggled for years. 

Fast forward to now I am doing a program called ''LCA''. To those who aren't in Ireland and are unfamiliar with this program LCA is basically Instead of a big final exam at the end of the year its basically practical work. Its meant for those who are good at practical work, those who are good with project work, work experience and is an alternative path way to college.

I think LCA is an amazing thing and it should be more common but I do wish that I had more of a chance. Yes I did choose LCA out of my own will but I did feel forced because I know that I would do horrible in an exam setting because I am so far back in education.

I feel like I was failed by my Primary school and didn't get the education I needed to advance to secondary school, which in the long run lead me to fall behind academically. And honestly truth be told I worry for kids who were like me at one stage in those special need classes because I don't want them to end up like me, years behind on education because a school system simply didn't care about their education.
