I had the money saved up to get my new album mastered. But then Merc Retro stepped in. My car decided "You need a new alternator" and that was that.
But I look at the plus sides.
Last time this happened to me was back in January 2021, and I was an hour from home when my car broke down. This time I was half a mile from my house, and the car was able to make it to the gas station up the road. So $614 later, I get my wheels back and life is good.
Merc Retro is seen as a bad thing. And yes things can get screwed up, but it's not always doom and gloom. In the past, I would have had a meltdown and gotten depressed. Yesterday and today, I took the high road and said "Hey, I had the money to fix it, and will make the cash back soon when I start gigging again next weekend." There's always a silver lining.
Quite honestly, I'm in no rush to get my new album out the door. In the past I was. Now, not so much. Not that I lost heart or interest, just that I am more realistic about things. I used to think that people couldn't wait to hear new music from me. That ship sailed. I am still going to put the album out, but when I feel good and ready. I have to get it mastered and then get copies made. And if people order, then great. If not I have a bunch of pressed tin foil that work great as iced tea coasters.
I see a lot of local bands that are my age that are so desperate for fame. It's over-rated, people. I tasted it years ago when I toured with TM Stevens in 2014. I learned what fame is and isn't. No, I didn't have throngs of people sleeping on my lawn or my privacy tampered. But it showed me that it can open doors and shut others just as fast. Anyone now who thinks they deserve fame and a world tour...think again. Nobody is saving rock and metal.
Nobody.
