Killing The Inner Child
She’s got a certain sadness in her eyes
One that only her reflection could see
She tends to watch herself cry
Weep before the child she silently begged to be
The mirror is her only comrade
An instrument for her to peer into
A world holding the small girl gazing back
The quiet rhythm to her blues
She gnaws at her lips till they bleed
Scratches at her reddened skin
To her, it doesn’t matter
When she glares at the whimpering kid
She doesn’t feel a thing
The glass suddenly shatters
Breaking into a million pieces
With the mirror, her reflection dies
She reached for the girl she used to be
But could only hear her echoed cries
She’s killed her out of envy
Tears pour from her eyes to her feet
In search of a lost identity
She used her hurt to hurt
She now sees the tragedy
Of losing that inner little girl
