Sea-man

Hear, the sodden cry of aged gulls,

Ringing out over shores that now lull,

You the murmured promise of the ocean's fill.

A mind deeper, deeper, yet deeper still.

Feel, the sandy waves eating your skin,

Grinding and gnawing to get within,

Your wants, desires, and love of me;

The ocean, and all of my bounty.

Taste, the salty air I kicked up,

Leaves marks on windows and your cups.

Humid and hot it sticks to your teeth,

The kicked up flavors from far beneath.

Smell, rotten coconuts and a stranger's remains,

My salty air covering up all your past stains.

The promise of dinner, burnt oil and cut fish,

The fruits of your labor; from me, a new gift.

See, me and aged shells, broken in the waves,

The leftovers of the last one and all that I gave.

You'll return in a year, you'll return back to me.

Because all rivers flow out, back towards the sea.
