April 2026 Movies

Holy hellll I watched MANY movies in the month of April. Let's get round to it without further ado: 

1. Casino Royale (2006): That was my introduction to the James Bond universe, and I wasn't disappointed. I haven't seen any other previous Bond movies, so I can't comment on whether this adaptation is faithful or pays respect to the original materials, but it was very entertaining nonetheless. A very nice action movie keeping you on your toes (I think I've never been so stressed watching people playing poker).

2. Quantum of Solace (2008): Being the immediate sequel to Casino Royale, I had high expectations from this movie, but they ended up flushed down the toilet. I think there's a reason this movie doesn't get talked about at all, and I feel like there's an unspoken rule to not mention this movie even exists. Disappointment, but I didn't let it ruin my James Bond marathon.

3. Skyfall (2012): Despite being disappointed by the 2nd installment, I remembered how hyped people were for this movie back then and the good reviews it received, so I went in with high hopes and they paid off. I've grown to really like Daniel Craig as Bond, he does a great job, and the cast in general felt more alive in this movie. Q my beloved.

4. The Truman Show (1998): This movie used to be on my Letterboxd top 4 for a short while, and to be fair, sometimes I'm very tempted to put it back on again. Truman Burbank thinks he's living an average life, but unbeknownst to him, he's actually living in a simulated reality made for the eyes of people all around the world, projected through a TV screen in the form of a reality show. Despite being made in 1998, I think there's a really good message about the state of modern social media in there and the way we think it's okay to film and project our daily lives (or even the lives of others WITHOUT HEIR CONSENT ahem family bloggers ahem) to millions of strangers online. Very ahead of its time and an insanely unique concept. Never tired of it, no matter how many times I see it.

5. Sinners (2025): AAAAHHH so many things I want to say about this movie, but I really don't want to spoil it for someone who might stumble upon this without seeing it before. Banger soundtrack, excellent parallelisms to culture and the fight for one's culture to exist in a very iofficult time for minorities in America, and the visuals were MWAH. Never thought vampires + blues could work so well together. The concept reminds me very much of Flanagan's Midnight Mass, a very favorite series of mine and one I think you should check out if you like Sinners (and vice versa).

6. Erin Brokovich (2000): I can't believe this movie has never fallen into my rotation before. Erin Brokovich's story is based on the very real woman of the same name, and her unstoppable determination to expose a cover-up concerning groundwater contamination plaguing the local community, all the fault of a gas company's facilities leaking dangerous chemicals into the ground. There's not much to say, other than it was a very inspiring story to be told, and we could all be more like Erin in the long run.

7. The Adventures of TinTin (2011): As a long time fan of the TinTin comics (read them all throughout my childhood) this movie had me GAGGED when it came out. The animation, the cinematography, the artstyle, the cast, everything about it is masterful. Truly a piece of art in itself and I want a sequel SO BAD but I doubt we'll get one since it's been 15 years at this point. I truly reccomend if you want an animated movie so vosually stunning your jaw would be on the floor during the entirety of it.

8. Drive (2011): I'm going to be honest, I didn't know anything about this movie other than the memes and I had no idea what to expect. Kind of glad I went into it so blind, because the story had many shocking turns for me that kind of made me gasp out loud, lol. Ryan Gosling's character is an excellent stunt driver getting entangled in the criminal world, something that comes between him and his new-found relationship with his neighbour and her son. There were many cool action scenes in this and I enjoyed watching it with friends. A solid movie to pass the time.

9. The Devil All The Time (2020): Admittedly, I'm a sucker for southern gothic aesthetics and stories, so this movie had been on my radar for a while. It basically tells the intertwined stories of a bunch of troubled people living in the general area near Ohio and, as a warning, shit gets rough lol. I don't want to say much because I think it's better you go blind into this, but be wanred of several types of abuse and a lot of murder. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

10. Mr Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie (2023): For some reason, I got this urge to rewatch the entirety of the Monk TV series, which was a nice walk down memory lane for me since I grew up watching ENDLESS hours of this show when I was a kid. I'd never really watched it from the start, and I had a lot of fun going through it. Now, regarding the movie, it's of course not a cinematic masterpiece and not many Monk fans like it, I think, but - if I'm being honest - the series itself was not some masterful piece of work to begin with. It's good, yes, but it's nothing more than a fun family-friendly detective show like the countless out there, so it's not like I was expecting the movie to be some kind of "absolute cinema" moment. It follows the events and vibe of the show pretty well, although I do wish we could have at least seen Sharona</3 My wife, please come back,,,,

11. Undertone (2025): Ι love giving chances to indie horror, as I've said before, and Undertone had a very interesting premise: a true crime podcaster finds herself entangled with a strange curse a fan has sent to her in the form of audio files. Although the concept sounded fun, the execution felt a bit lacking and was quite clunky at times. I think the director has potential, so I'd definitely check out his next project!

12. The Night House (2020): A friend recommended this to me, and I'm glad she did because I rarely find horror movies that feel so... Different than your average horror flick. If you're familiar with Mike Flanagan's work (Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor) I think there's something in this movie you'll like. It's always refreshing to see directors/writers taking the horror genre and shaping it into something more than shock factor, since the concept of haunting in itself hides something more emotional in it than cheap jump scares. The Night House follows a woman whose recently deceased husband seemed to be hiding something from her that he never found the courage to admit, and it sends her into a spiral trying to uncover what drove him to take his own life. I love it when the element horror is used as a metaphor for grief; I eat it up every time !!!
