SATC Thoughts: Charlottes Character

Hello, I’m Mimi and I like wanted to share some thoughts on one of my favorite characters from SATC next to Miranda; Charlotte. If you’re reading this, you probably already know and have watched SATC, movies, and revival show. If you don’t then you probably would have heard of it.

SATC is a large show that had shifted pop culture for every generation that watches it. A noticeable shift was how generations of women(being the main audience) went from loving Carrie to hating her in these past decades. But I’m not here to talk about Carrie though I have many thoughts about her character. I wanted to talk about charlotte.

To start, I want to make it clear that I love charlotte. She is one of the main characters I identify myself and like any character I love. I also love dissecting their character, because that how we get to learn from these characters and what makes them so appealing to love or appealing to hate.

Charlotte to me is a very classy and chic character from her looks and style. That is something I love about her! She had a fabulous sense in fashion! She is one of the romantics of the four in their friend group, much like Carrie. But what makes her different from Carrie was that she knew what she wanted and was sure that she wanted to be married and have children. Unlike when we see Carrie who didn’t really know what to decide and was guided by a ‘cosmic’ pull or spark. That is something I also admired, but what I noticed is that Charlotte was quite quick in her relationships.

An example of this is in her relationship with Trey. To Charlotte, when she saw that Trey was perfect on paper; she was quick to get married and try for kids but then struggled when he couldn’t have a sex with her and cheated. That is something I believe no one should condone in her circumstances. It would be different if she was in an abusive relationship, but she wasn’t. There are many reasons why married couples aren’t able to perform physically(age, disorders both physically and mentally, not being prepared, etc) and they could have worked it out. Though I think the divorce was needed, since Trey did not want kids in the end. Even if she cheated, she shouldn’t stay in a marriage that cuts her want for kids.

I suppose this could be part one to charlotte’s character thoughts because I need to sleep a bit. But I am uploading this to make a discussion! Please comments your thoughts too!
