crane wives concert tonight!

so I just got back from a concert in downtown Portland this evening of the Crane Wives, one of my favorite bands of all time, they're pretty indie all things considered, but the last time they were in town I had practice so I had to miss them and that was a few years ago, they skipped Portland like a lot of bands do on their beyond beyond beyond tour but finally they were here and first of all.

oh my god???? fucking amazing.

where do I begin, we had an amazing opener, yasmin williams, who had some amazing guitar instrumental tracks, like she lead me into these repetitive moments and then suddenly it was a change into something totally new and awesome, she added tap to the guitar, percussion, and even a kalimba that she played at the same time, like that was so cool, genuinely one of the best openers of my life.

then we start off with the band of the hour themselves. they played constant banger after banger. strangler fig as their pic to start of came in complete shock but was such a good choice, then they did so many other good songs.

the set list was:

arcturus beaming

nobody

pretty little things

the moon will sing

black hole fantasy

curses

the hand that feeds (which they did this key change for, it was so so good, I want it to be done in that key from now on)

sleeping giants

and then they started the encore with one of their songs I don't recognize! maybe it's from the solo work of emilee (one of the singers and guitarists) or dan (the drummer)? or its one of the other tracks that got a solo release? but they ended it with steady, steady, and tongues and teeth and what a way to end the show. it was so so good, they had a great time on stage killing it with each song, adding their own embellishments making it seem like so much fun, the crowd was constantly hype, cheering, shouting, and showering both the opener and the band with so much support, and it was just so much fun to go.

they played constant bangers, the people were awesome, and I finally have a band t-shirt!

best way to have spent a thursday night.
