i genuinely think that one of the biggest reasons im not in a worse place is thanks to my dog, raeven. i've had her for i think a year now and shes a year and 2 months old
initially she belonged to my mom and her boyfriend until they had their one of many split ups and she couldnt afford the house they had anymore around september. she wasnt allowed pets in the first place but still got her, and i remember her telling me raeven was probably going to this friend so we could still see her and all this. it obviously upset me but i didnt say anything until one day while walking home from school i texted her asking about raeven and if i'd ever get to see her again
im not sure what happened from there but one morning a few days later i came down and my grandfather said to me, "so if we get this dog here, you'll take care of her or she's out the door" and i obviously said yes and still am taking care of her and everything. anyway, he brings her to our house and ever since then i have loved her more than anything
even while with my then boyfriend (who i cut contact with) i honestly wouldve thrown him into a woodchipper if it meant keeping her safe
at some point she got out and was on the highway, which i fully chased her out to and i was about ready to run after her until she very very luckily turned and ran off. one of the biggest things i remember about this is that we never actually caught her or anything by grabbing her since i managed to circle her back to my neighborhood, but the way we did catch her was because i was extremely overheated and exhausted so i fell. my grandparents chased her around still but raeven managed to slip by them (which it is another huge thing of chance that she came to the side of our house i was on the ground by) and she looked ready to dash off again until she saw me and came running over and laid on me until my grandfather came to get her because i wasnt able to get enough strength to fully carry her back inside (shes about 50-60 lbs)
that story aside, a lot of it just cements how much i'd do for and love her. i wrote this because i saw her asleep on my bean bag and i got emotional about it. and no i didnt choose her name to be raeven (my mom did) but i enforced my family into spelling her name raeven instead of raven because i kind of hated it (still do) and i wanted to be original
