There was a time when you were able to design a spot on the internet and claim it as yours.
You picked the song, designed the layout, discovered and connected with individuals.
Then social media stopped being about connection and started being about content. This gap has been made more obvious by dedicated subreddits and discord servers created specifically to find online friends. It's why millennials think back nostalgically to the simpler times, and why even younger users join spacehey, friendrewind, and napolean to taste what it was like. It's also why many people bring up Myspace frequently years from now because something's not working. Social media driven by profit is heading us in the wrong direction. Recommendation systems are built to keep you scrolling, not to help you belong somewhere.
I'm currently trying to work on a site where your profile is your online space dedicated to you. A place people visit, not just scroll past and where finding your people is the point, not a side effect. Hot take: spacehey, friendrewind, and napoleon are great sites but stuck in the past. The question might not be how can we bring back clones of myspace to relive the memories, but instead how to use MySpace as an inspiration to produce solutions to combat heading towards a bleak path. also can't tell if this post sounds cheesy so lmk rip

It did sound cheesy for me. It feels real to me.
I also agree, I don't like how social media rn. I would like to see how my friends want to express themselfs and see how they are doing onces I awhile. I don't like the whole time to see shorts for profit or to keep you watching.
Social media feels so fake now.
I curious to this site tho!
I was definitely leaning towards revising it a bit haha. Not many users atm but looking for like-minded individuals to build a community. Tried to gather everything I like about social platforms into one. One feature is holding the 'space bar' to switch between standard and myspace profile

Yeah I totally agree, I really hope that eventually everything turns around and the internet could go back to what it was in some way, leaving the bad and taking the good.
I hope your project goes well!
Thanks!
