(last album impressions post / part 7)
Hey again, long time no see (in the sense that as I write this, it's apparently 3 months since I put something on here). I think I should have the motivation to post again on here. There's a lot I want to bring up in terms of my life but I also want to do my best to sparingly give too much detail for anonymity sakes. But what I will say is that: I have been busy (I'm no longer jobless), and I'm also just unmotivated (again). Personally, as much as I would love to write a lot on blogs, I'm also just unmotivated to write all the time, and I sometimes just want to do other things and it's not a bad thing. It does however, make me feel bad to neglect some interests.
Even after inactivity to post, I never stopped thinking about this series, as with tracking new albums I've listen to. After all, I at least made a handy dandy note on my phone listing bullet notes of songs I liked, my impressions of the album, and the likes. Oh and relistening to the album when I can.
So will I be active on posting this series or writing blogs on here again? I don't know, probably not, but I have so much blog entries in this series that I need to make up for. Just give it some time, even if it feels like I won't come back here again. I have been open to also getting a Substack (well I have one already lol), but maybe to transfer things there (or not, and make some other kinds of posts there).
Okay life stuff out of the way, I have two new albums (and more down the line ofc) that I would like to offer my own thoughts on. That being, Tame Impala's album Currents, and Purity Ring's self titled Purity Ring.
And as always, I need a disclaimer here: Everyone has unique preferences in music tastes. An album that I enjoy will not always resonate with someone else and vice versa. So please don't be disrespectful in the comments. Also one thing I'm gonna note, I am not a professional music reviewer or music analysist. But I'd like to talk about the album regardless, as a general music listener/enjoyer. Unless, ofc I have some other factoids I'd like to bring up, that's all.

Tame Impala - Currents (2015)
My rating: 8.7/10
Favorite Song(s): Disciples, The Less I Know Better, Yes, I'm Changing, The Moment (honorable mention)
Genres: Synthpop, Psychedelic Pop, Neo-Psychedelia, Dream Pop, Alternative R&B
General Thoughts: I completely forgot this album came out in 2015, which would explain why listening to this in my car made me think about all those nostalgic late 2010s summer vibes blah blah blah. And I mean this in a good way, the tracks that I had listened to during its popularity still hit really good. One of the first few songs I've heard from this album was Disciples when I was digging through those aesthetic audio find videos on YouTube. It's a very cute sounding melody with poppy beats to it that y'know, are very Tame Impala (who knew, also excellent explanation :/). Other songs like The Less I Know was also a big popular hit song too, but I also think it's just on the same level as Disciples. Others like Let It Happen or New Person, Same Mistakes were also used in a lot of audios, and while I do like those songs, I'd keep going back to the ones I listed in the Favorite Songs section of this "review/impressions," and I'd always find myself back to Yes, I'm Changing. Would like to point out that later in the song, you could hear faint car honking noises and when I was driving, I initially got scared I thought I did something wrong haha. But it's all good.
Overall, this album feels like a mix between Magdalena Bay (early day works and Mercurial World) and The Marias (Cinema), with its magical, nostalgic, dreamy summer feel. Something magical was in the air with this one, and I can't believe I didn't bother to do a full track listen during its hype.
Also funnily enough, Mag Bay weren't even a thing until 2016, so like...a year after this album's release.
Purity Ring - Purity Ring (2015)
My rating: 8.9/10

Genres: Electropop, Alt-Pop, Indietronica, Liquid Drum and Bass, Synthpop
General Thoughts: I...I can't believe I forgot about them. Although, the only songs I knew by Purity Ring was Belispeak II and Begin Again, but otherwise. Wow. This was recommended to me via instagram: 1) being an album recommendation from a youtuber i watched and 2) general ads i'd get from doomscrolling. Everytime the promotional post for the album showed up, it would play the long night: a track with these cold, chilly synths that feel like you're in some kind of rave taking place in an ice palace or a snowy forest. Eventually, I knew I had to save a day or week to give this album a full listen (and make future plans to listen to more Purity Ring stuff).
The album is conceptualized to feel like you're playing a typical RPG fantasy game, namely stuff like Zelda or Final Fantasy (as if it wasn't obvious by the album cover). But, I also thought this album could work for a few 2d platformer games or maybe a rhythm game like Cytus II, like i could see that fit into PAFF's tracks. Like you can put place of my own and memory ruins in the game and I would not bat an eye.
Another thing I noted: I felt like a fairy illustration in a Blingee edit listening to these songs. Sure. I mean it's true. But...yeah.
For the one person who took their time to even make sense of my nonsense, thanks for making it here. I'm not cut out for highly professional music review outside of "I like the vibes", but I guess that's just how it is. I like logging and tracking things and maybe get some few things out of my mind while I was listening to these tracks, regardless if it means...anything. At all.
But anyways, if any edits are needed, then you can expect a bit of change on here. As I've said in the intro part, I will be adding a genre section. I hope that will help with recommendations if nothing else.
