The 4 AM Application Shuffle
There’s a specific kind of quiet that only exists in the hours between 3 and 5 AM. It’s a heavy, velvet sort of silence—the kind that makes the hum of the refrigerator sound like a jet engine and turns every distant car passing by into a personal insult.
I’m currently caught in the loop: the restless, hollow-eyed dance of being awake when the world expects you to be dreaming, and then trying to "function" in a world that requires a level of polish I haven't possessed in days.
My current project? The Job Hunt. They tell you to "treat it like a part-time job." They tell you to "set boundaries." But how are you supposed to set boundaries with a process that feels like shouting into an abyss? I spend my "awake" hours tailoring resumes, obsessing over cover letters, and refreshing portals just to see the same "Application Received" status staring back at me for weeks on end.
I’m tired of the "sludge-like" feeling of bad coffee and the performative nature of job applications. If you’re out there, in the dark, scrolling through job boards when you should be sleeping—I see you. This isn't a failure; it's a brutal, exhausting cycle.
I’m taking a pause. Not because I’ve given up, but because I’m human, and humans need to sleep eventually.
What’s the most ridiculous interview question you’ve ever been asked? Or, how are you keeping your head above water this week? Let me know in the comments.
