Make so much reviews that it's impossible fot Hot Topic to ignore us!! And ask them to make plus-sized versions and girls and boys versions of both the Gir Hoodies! Ask them to make more scene kid and scenecore stuff! Ask them to bring back the So So Happy Monster merch! Ask them to lower their prices so everyone can be scemo! UK people pay attention. There's an alternative clothing shop in my town that does delivery pretty much anywhere in the UK. It's called The Charnel House. Check them out, they do band t merch as well as a ton of gothic clothing and accessories (the dresses there are AMAZING!)
Hot Topic isn't available here (unless you want to pay Β£30 shipping) but I totally agree.
My best advice is to look for alternative clothing shops near you. Most of them are small shops with only one location. Support them instead of huge corporations. Charity shops are good but it's hard to find a lot there. But sometimes you can get really lucky and find some t shirts, CDs and accessories. Just stop giving them your business and leave tons of negative reviews saying that you want the old stuff back.
I swear in recent years Hot Topic has been becoming less about the alternative scene that made them big and more about popular stuff because thats what brings in the most money. They genuinely don't care about their customers.
I've seen a lot of people mention their art theft. In 2021 (I think?) they released an MCR shirt with a pretty problematic design and only took it down after a ton of negative reviews.

First time I went into a HT (I was 11) I was expecting to see what the HT in South Park looked like in that one episode (I think that ep was from the 2000s or the early 2010s) but nope! It's all shit that wannabe goths would wear and now they're tryna go e-kid style.
And a lot of us alt kids come from poor backgrounds AND not everyone lives in a fucking city? Where there's tons of shops?
Personally, I can't shop online cuz my parents refuse to use credit cards and I can't shop irl EITHER because we live in the damn woods of a small town with ONE SHOP.
Where the hell do I get my clothes? Oh yeah, mine are all basic hand-me-downs, the only other opinion is to go all "πΊπΈ

let's be honest w ourselves here, why would they care? at all? they're a multi-million dollar company trying to make money as quickly as they could in the cheapest way imaginable. they will ALWAYS prefer quantity over quality because they have to meet trends and demands instead of producing quality products that'll last longer. right now invader zim and skelanimals r being revived, so they have to churn out as much products as possible to take advantage of the situation :// hot topic sucks (imo any corporate store chain sucks tbh) and it's much much better to support local/independent alternative stores

that's not the exact situation though. they're still very successful with pandering to geek culture despite them dropping the quality of their alternative products. not only that, they're still a business regardless and they've always had blood on their hands right from the near beginning considering how they're a retail chain that would do anything to gain huge profits from consumers. believe it or not, the company deciding to sell more rock shirts was because it was the highest selling section of the store - it's not because they genuinely care about making consumers happy, it's because it makes them the most money. i actually made a post about hot topic tho it doesn't exactly go into great detail (plus i made it super late at night lol) ^^

imo this is kind of a naive way of looking at it. they're a business and there are things that needs to be understood in order to properly judge hot topic with what direction they're taking the company. there's a lot more nuance to the situation. i'm sorry to break it to you but it can't just happen because random people on the internet rags on them 24/7. plus the whole "straight tiktok" thing just makes the argument fall apart because 1. it's not their main demographic and never has been and 2. this situation is SO much more than just tiktok trends, this is a whole business/marketing tactic from hot topic and it sucks having so many vulnerable kids still put up with terrible brands like hot topic. to me, i think just dropping the brand instead of expecting them to change will yield better results

i'm not gonna sugarcoat it for you, this type of discussion is so much more than you think it is. the market is already complex on its own, add how capitalism functions and the discussion gets even more complicated. being on alt tiktok doesn't mean that you have a complete knowledge of how the system works and being on alt tiktok alone certainly isn't enough either. talking about issues involving hot topic's business ventures is like opening a bottomless can of worms. understanding the basics and the root of the problem is crucial when it comes to something like capitalism. ik it sounds like i'm an old guy yelling at the sun or something but it really is a lot of difficult stuff to discuss and since you're young it's important to understand that these corporations aren't on our side at all - they just want our money.

unfortunately, that's just how companies are. they don't exactly have good morals (though ofc they have to appear like a good brand bc it's beneficial for marketing) nor would they ever want to have good morals to genuinely listen to people. they weren't consumed by greed along the line, they've been this way right from the very beginning; it has nothing to do with their business "turning greedy", they KNOW what they're doing and since there's a lot of naive people that expect companies to be better, they still get away with all of it after all this time. they won't ever be better and they will never care about being better, that's just how it is ://

The big problem is corporate greed, which is less of a hot topic problem and more of a how the country is going problem. The people in the highest positions are pretty far removed from what we desire emotionally; they just do what they can to get the cheapest product out as much as they can. This is every corporation. No one at the top is going to listen, they're part of the rich corporate elite. It's not a job you get by being hip and trendy, it's a job you get when you prove you can connive money/ you've had the financial resources to get that job. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Hot Topic Incorporated includes Hot Topic, BoxLunch, Torrid... the executives just know to see and fill a niche, but whoevers running HTI right now and probably for quite some time doesn't see subculture as more than something to profit off of.
