a silly guide to phantom siita (and why you should stan)

phantom siita (ファントムシータ) 

kanji: 怪忌蝶

phantom siita is a 4 member j-pop girl group with a retro-horror concept 

their name comes from a combination of “phantom” (ghost) and “siita” (a combination of the scientific names for monarch butterflies “parantica sita” and swallowtail moths “epicopeia hainesii”) they are described as being a moth among butterflies in the idol industry, both scary and beautiful, making you want to reach out even though its scary. 

their fandom name is “haine” (pronounced “eine”) once again coming from the scientific name for swallowtail moths “epicopeia hainesii”

they were produced by the japanese music legend ADO who says she was inspired to make the group because she didn’t see other idols with the concept. although, despite their concept, all of the current members of phantom siita are actually pretty easily frightened and don’t usually indulge in horror media LOL 

they debuted june 26, 2024 with the single otomodachi 

- they’ve since released many many singles and their first album - girlhood memories

- their second album horror queen is set to release june 24, 2026, with the single of the same name releasing june 6

over 4,000 people auditioned to be in phantom siita and despite how well they pull off their challenging concept, none of the current members have any prior experience in the idol industry. 

for their audition they had to cover the song “tot musica” by their producer ado (this is them performing that same song after they debuted) and once the 4,000 was narrowed down they then went to a short bootcamp where the final lineup would be decided. for more information on their debut process, check out their debut documentary!

focus songs: otomodachi, noah

miu loves to eat and snack. out of all the phantom siita members, she has the most interesting background as she had absolutely no intention of becoming an idol. she auditioned for the group to try something new and had never truly sung or danced before. despite her challenges keeping up with the other auditionees, a message from ado during the bootcamp “unlocked” something in miu and on the final day she showcased an unmatched ability to tap into horror in her performance. now, she stands out for her absolutely insane stage presence and colorful vocals. 

MOKA

birthday: october 20, 2006 

focus songs: conflicting, rose-colored moon 

moka is most known for her incredible strong vocals and dance abilities. she loves sweet foods and eggs and is a big anime fan. she’s the member who avoids horror the most (she actually hates it) because she’s really easily scared. she even has a hard time watching their own music videos because they’re scary. she auditioned because she thought a horror concept unit was unusual and she was curious. despite all this, moka is phantom siita’s most powerful vocalist and has at least some background in singing and dancing growing up. 

RINKA

birthday: may 9, 2007 

focus songs: devilish girl, mo-ii-kai?

rinka is another member known for her vocals, specifically the lowest parts of phantom siita’s songs. she’s been praised by ado for her stable vocals, regardless of how nervous she is. she was also praised by the other members for her clean dance skills, even during their audition bootcamp. she’s phantom siita’s cat member, known for her cat like visual and iconic cat ear hairstyle during “suki, kirai” era (even though she’s allergic to cats). ado has also named her a peach fairy although she can’t really explain what that means LOL. she’s described as pure-hearted and laid back, a girl who enjoys the sky and long twisting roads 

MONA

birthday: september 17, 2007 

focus songs: just wanna xxxx with you, bot bakka

mona is the youngest member of phantom siita. she’s impossibly cute, cute enough that ado thought she might have been auditioning as a joke just to see what ado looked like LOL. she’s confident and bold. another member with little to no experience in dance/singing, she had dreams of being an idol and worked hard to achieve them. she may often handle low parts of phantom siita’s songs but she’s most known for her sweet, princess voice. she absolutely loves being cute and researching/buying makeup and doesn’t let the groups horror concept stop her from showing her sweetness, or her cuteness stop her from going all in on being terrifying. 

FORMER MEMBER

SUI 

sui was the oldest member of phantom siita and the only member with an actual interest in horror and dark things. it was announced in may of 2025 that she would be leaving phantom siita for health reasons, although she said she did not want that to be the end of her journey. she’s super active online, especially on instagram, where she models! she’s also recently been getting back into the world of music and has featured in a few songs here or there. her focus song was hanabami 

phantom siita are known for their absolutely amazing stage presence and their insane live vocals, as they often perform with low or even no backing track.

overall they are an incredibly talented j-pop group with a super unique concept. all of the members are so fun and silly and they make such insanely gorgeous music with insane live performance abilities.
