DevilMan Crybaby

I just finished watching Devilman Crybaby, a 10-episode anime that I really recommend. It’s short enough to finish in a single day, though I should warn that it can be disturbing at times and has a lot of nudity—so keep that in mind if you plan to watch it.

What stood out to me were the three types of characters: humans, demons, and devilmans. Demons are bloodthirsty monsters who kill without hesitation. Devilmans, on the other hand, keep control over their demonic side and often use their powers for good. Their kindness and restraint show how “human” they truly are, even though they’re half demon.

Ironically, many of the humans in the show are portrayed as cruel. They kill each other out of fear and suspicion, often without proof or critical thought, driven only by self-preservation and prejudice. They believe they’re superior simply because they’re human, even as they commit terrible acts against their own kind.

In contrast, the devilmans embody the most human qualities: compassion, vulnerability, and care for others. The show makes it clear that true humanity isn’t about being free of demonic power—it’s about empathy and the courage to resist destructive desires.
