rant about technology

I've always been fascinated by technology, especially phones and computers and just the fact we were able to create a device where we can talk to pretty much ANYONE ANYWHERE! When I was a kid, I would change which job I wanted to have when I grew up a lot, but a few years ago I finally landed on being a robotics engineer! However, although I am a bit impressed by recent technology, old tech just speaks to me! it just has so much more personality besides, back then there was so much more potential, actual inconveniences that could then be fixed by technology! Nowadays it just feels like the classic "create a problem and sell the solution" scheme. I want to find something new. something I could make that wouldn't just be a solution to an already non-existent problem, but honestly it doesn't seem like things are looking great (;-.-). I'm not going to try to sugarcoat it, AI is already thinking for some people, and since these people aren't thinking for themselves, they aren't working their brain, and therefore the literacy rate decreases. We have very real problems now that I could possibly find solutions to, except those problems are caused by the very field I want to get into! As they say, you shouldn't fight fire with fire, so how am I supposed to come up with a robotic solution to a robotic problem? If I made a robot that actually challenges people, they would only naturally go after the AI that doesn't challenge them, because at this point, I think some people believe that thinking for themselves is too hard. ANYWAY, I could talk about technology forever if I was given the chance, it really hurts me to see all this potential going to waste! :(
