Hello dear readers,
I don't know who may be reading this now but this will be open to everyone. If you stumbled upon this, stick around and let's find out what happens together.
I'm a nearly 21 year old writer, aspiring academic, and the only me that'll ever exist. I don't like myself very much because we're not very well acquainted, due to the consequences of dissociating for a large portion of adolescents. Years of journaling have reached their limit when it comes to benefits as writing only matters so much when you're the only one who will see it.
As a sociologist (in progress), I believe that identity is an inherently social thing and there's only so much you can know about yourself in a vacuum before it starts to feel meaningless. I'm on a journey to put the "life" in social life and practice the skills that I didn't get to as an isolated, undiagnosed autistic black girl (non-practicing) in a predominantly white environment. In the meantime, I want to start blogging, not only because it is a valuable skill to know how to practice what you love to do (in my case, writing), but also because I find my attention at the mercy of our techno-overlords, and my creativity atrophies under the oppressive, manufactured compulsion to consume constantly and only use my abilities to sell my labor for a wage, in the never-ending pursuit of producing capital. Blogging is both my resistance and affirmation of the world I am actively creating; one where everyone is free to create as they please and the ties that bond us are held together by the shared worlds we've built. See? I didn't even know I was going to write that until I did!
I've tried many methods of creating a writing routine but they all fall apart because I have no direction for my ideas, no cradle for my brain babies to go in once they've been birthed. This blog will be true to the name "(we)b log." This will be the place my thoughts will call their home and go mingle with the other thoughts on the internet, because my babies won't be socially inept like their mama. I have a tumblr account but it has its own thing going on. I want this to be fresh and new, not a hand-me-down.
I will probably end up writing a number of things as they pertain to my interests.
