Since the beginning of the internet, people have pretended to be cooler than they are by lying about everything they know. Nobody is asking you to pay for a game and play 1000 hours to be part of the fandom, you just need to know what you're talking about. Know major characters and events at the least, or even just the themes.

There's so many more options to be included in fandom spaces, now more than ever, and people would still rather lie about being involved than sit their ass down and watch a fifteen minute video to brief themselves on what they SHOULD know. PLEASE just get involved!!! We want you here!!!

does that mean watching an hour vid explaining fnaf lore can make me part of the fandom :3?
(ever since the day i first knew about those games the only thing that stopped me from playing is fearing it might be too scary ૮(˶╥︿╥)ა)
ofc! taking your time to actually understand what goes on in the fandom is what people do by playing the games, its just made easier and more accessible through the means of online sharing. tbh most people's first introduction to FNAF spaces were through gacha life adaptations.
i think its bullshit to expect someone to buy an expensive game because they think "knowing everything abt the game but not having played it" isn't true fandom. people who pirate and mod games aren't treated like this, or by what i've seen, definitely not to the same extent. people with low income who might not be able to buy a game, or those with phobias who physically cannot play, deserve to take part in fandom spaces of media they like.
